Yasmin - for you,for me and those with acne

Advantages:
Clear skin, reduces water retention, effective contraceptive

Disadvantages:
Dry skin, feeling sick, new pill (long term side effects unknown)

I have tried many contraceptive pills over the past few years and without a doubt this is the best I have tried.

It is not revolutionary, but it is a long term solution for those with skin problems who can no longer use Dianette. I liked Dianette, it cured all my skin problems (please read my article on dianette for full opinion), but I was warned of potential liver problems which meant I had to stop taking it immediately.

It was seven months ago that Dianette was recommended by my doctor. He had heard about this fourth generation pill at a conference and was keen to have patients try it. As one of the first to try this pill at my clinic, I was worried about the side effects but so far it has been fine.

As I have mentioned I have skin problems which at the time I started Yasmin were fairly bad (other pills I tried had flared it up again). Within a couple of weeks I noticed a big change in my skin. Not only was it clearer but break outs decreased to only around my period. My periods were lighter and shorter and my water retention disappeared.

Side effects? Well yes I have had a couple, but nothing too serious. My skin is drier and for the first few weeks I felt sick. I also find I have more period pains than what I used to have on dianette.

However for those of us who want a contraceptive pill and desire clear skin without the associated liver problems, Yasmin is the solution to our prayers. Ask your doctors for it now!

Now for the technical bit...

Yasmin is a combined contraceptive pill, with each yasmin tablet contains three milligrams of the progestogen drospirenone and thirty micrograms of the oestrogen ethinylestradiol.What makes Yasmin different from other contraceptive pills is that it contains a different type of progestogen which works differently in your body. It decreases excess sodium and water in the body and increases the level of potassium (which is apparantly safe). The long term side effects of this are unknown.

As with most pills not everyone can take it (e.g those who suffer from high blood pressure, migraine's,etc)Possible side effects include bleeding/spotting between periods, headaches, feeling sick, depression and sore breasts.

Hi lisadiva, i'm thinking of going on yasmin, but am scared about an initial breakout. Did you experience anything like this? How does it compare with the Dianette as far as long-term clearing of the skin is concerned? Have you had any other side effects such as hair loss or body hair changes? Dianette worked for my skin, but I'm now off it as it made me very bloated, and I'm nervous about Yasmin as I've heard it makes some people's acne worse.

i wanted to go on this pill because i heard it's less likely to make you put on weight. i'm unsure about the one i'm on at the moment because i'm a bit concerned about the possible side effects (i've had nothing terrible so far, but you never know) and i read somewhere that yasmin has less possible side effects x
