I love it!
Review of Marmite Yeast Extract by atytyut2434

Advantages: Some like it!
Disadvantages: Some hate it!

...they'd have done that with Marmite especially as its Australian cousin Vegemite has been sold in a squeezy tube for years. If its the glass jar version then you can at least make sure you use every last speck by pouring some boiling water into whats left in the jar to make yourself a nice hot tasty drink. Regardless of whether its on brown or white bread, toast or in its hot drink format Marmite always fills a hole very well. ... Read review

Getting it up - the joys of yeast
Review of Hovis Fast Action Bread Yeast by Shaunie

Advantages: Easy to use, pre-measured quantities
Disadvantages: Not the Cheapest

...Yeast, hence I'm reviewing the Hovis yeast sachets, something I've used an awful lot and recommend highly to beginners to dough making. Cost ---- As far as cost goes, this is the downside of the Hovis yeast, because buying in sachets is expensive. On Tesco Online, for example, it costs 72p for 2 sachets, and Jamie Oliver's dough recipe uses three sachets, so a loaf of Hovis is a lot cheaper than making your own!!! For my business, I buy yeast ...
...tub and makes about 40 mixes) but I started out using the packets for sheer convenience because it was one thing less to measure in my small kitchen. Packaging --------- In a dark green and brown livery, the packaging matches the traditional 'Hovis' range, and this gives a high quality appearance. Smell ----- Well, all yeasts have a musty smell, it goes with the territory, but this one is not too bad, (the Allinson yeast which is similarly priced ... Read review

The designer yeast for the owner of a Breadmaker.
Review of Allinson Yeast, Easy Bake by Arbrette

Advantages: Excellent product, developed specially for breadmakers, foolproof and leaves no heavy aftertaste in the bread.
Disadvantages: Sachets available most places, but economy packs currently only in the larger supermarkets.

...Just for Bread sachets that Allinson also make – and these you will be able to get easily (no yeast, but you can get the optional extras… yes, well…). These are for what Allinsons call times when you feel like making something a bit different but haven’t got the home ingredients or you just don’t fancy trailing out to the shops – or you have just hears the breadmaker bleeping for the ‘add ingredients’ ...
...textured loaf . The sachets cost between £0.55 and £0.95, depending where you go, and contain the ingredients to make the following: Raisin and Apricot Cheese, Chive and Onion, Date and Three Seeds (which even tastes of the seeds - Sesame, sunflower and pumpkin) I know it says on the sachet that you add the whole sachet, but I have used half for a 1/5kg loaf and resealed the sachet for next time. The Savoury loaf is my personal favourite, but ... Read review

you either love it or hate it, no thats marmite
Review of Vegemite Yeast Extract by avd2007

Advantages: high in folic acid and B vitamins, versatile
Disadvantages: can be hard to find in supermarkets

Vegemite is a yeast extract spread from Australia. It is similar to Marmite but doesn't have such a salty and bitter taste or such a strong flavour. Personally I don't like Marmite at all, however I am a big Vegemite fan. It contains malt extract and vitamin B's, this means it is also very good for you. The B vitamins it contains are: Niacin, Thiamin, Riboflavin and a high amount of Folic Acid. This is good If you are trying to conceive or are ...
...culture. Just saying the name Vegemite brings images of Australia and their blue sky and bright sun to my mind. This spread is very versatile you can have it on toast or in sandwiches. I like to add a teaspoon to soups and stews for flavour. It is also good to spread over vegetables such as marrow and pumpkin and then roasted. Vegemite is becoming more common in the U.K now and can be found in most supermarkets. Their are only two sizes available ... Read review

Extract! Extract! Read all about it!
Review of Tesco Yeast Extract by rootle2

Advantages: Tasty
Disadvantages: Best with lashings of butter

...best in my opion is Tesco Yeast Extract. What is yeast extract? Amazingly there is a European Directive 88/388 regulating yeast extract but it would be wrong to view this versatile product merely in its spread form. Indry powder form it is used as a nitrogen source in many industries including biopharmaceuticals. Yeast extract is defined as the water soluble products of the yeast cell made up mainly of amino-acids, peptides, carbohydrates ...
...taste in a cheese sandwich. Tesco Yeast Extract is excellent eaten in this way. What's in it? A helping is only 9 calories (so I make it up with loads of butter on toast), only trace amounts of sugar and fat but 0.5g of salt. This quantity of salt is what gives yeast extract a lot of its taste and represents only 8%of your RDA (recommended daily amount). Tesco Yeast Exract also has added vitamins and one helping constitutes 20% of Thiamin ... Read review
