"YORKSHIRE BANK"

"INTERNET BANKING

I moved to the Yorkshire Bank eighteen months ago after an horrific experience with Abbey Bank ( but that is worthy of a review in it's own right!!).

I opened a current account and a savings account and I have been more than satisfied with the service I have received over that time. I receive a statement regularly, although for envirnomental reasons would really like to see the option of paper free invoices with having access to my statements on the internet.

Yorkshire Bank was founded in 1859 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, by Colonel Edward Akroyd and is part of the National Australia Bank Group - Yorkshire Bank is a trading name of Clydesdale Bank PLC.

I live in a rural area so don't get to the bank too often, consequently internet and telephone banking are very important to me.
Both of these were quick and easy to set up with Yorkshire Bank.

INTERNET BANKING

As with most banks, the internet banking means that I have access to my accounts 24 hours a day, it is very convenient and I am more than happy with the security of my accounts.

Having the internet banking means that I can view accounts and check balances at any time, keeping on top of my finances. I use it a lot to transfer funds to my savings account and to my daughter's account periodically - it makes life so much easier for me. I am happy that I am able to keep an eye on my finances and it certainly helps me keep in credit and move monies instantly between my two bank accounts.

I am able to set up standing orders and to keep an eye on my direct debit; I particulatly like the fact that if there is a need for me to cancel either so long as it is done before 4.00 pm it is cancelled that day - with the other banks I have used this could take a couple of days.

Accessing my account is easy; I simply go to the bank's home page and click on internet banking.

I have a personal customer number ( which is the same for both internet and telephone banking) which I enter, then a password and then I answer one of three personal questions - pre set by me. The whole takes less than a minute and is very secure. I have never had any trouble at all with the service and I log into it at least once a day.

It took a couple of days for me to receive the security details by post before I was able to log in for the first time after registering.

One thing I like is that if the bank are going to alter to layout or look of their internet banking page they let you know in advance and show you an example so that you know that it is genuine.

This is the third bank account that I have had that I have used internet banking with, and I must say that I cannot fault it.

TELEPHONE BANKING

I don't tend to use this so much as I always use the internet, but I have found it useful when I have been away from home.

The telephone number is on all credit and debit cards, on calling ( an 0845 number) you are prompted to put in your customer number then a four digit number chosen by you. You can have the automatic service which gives balances, last payments received and debited etc or speak to a representative. It is quick to get through to a representative and they are in this country - which is something of a rarity these days. When I have had to use the banking service it has been excellent.
THE BANK ITSELF

I live close to the city of Lancaster and there is one branch of the Yorkshire Bank there. It does sometimes get busy but when it does extra cashiers are brought out and I have never queued more than five minutes. The staff have always been very pleasant and helpful.
Setting up the account was relatively quick and easy and was a very personal service.

Yorkshire Bank offers all the normal facilities - overdarft, mortgages, insurances, ISAs, loans and credit cards but as I have not used any of these facilities I am not in a position to talk about them.

In the time I have been with the bank I have had no problems with fees etc; after a holiday in Spain in October when there was a mix up with my money, I found my account had gone overdrawn when I got home, I telephoned the bank and explained the position, they were very helpful and waived any charges.

On another occasion , when checking my statement on the internet, I realised that a payment had been taken from my account by my debit card which I had not made. I telephoned the bank who immediatly stopped my debit card and ordered me another. I had to go to the bank to fill in a form , my card had been hacked somehow but luckily, with checking on the internet , I had managed to catch it before my account was emptied.

I received the money back in my account in less than a week and my new card was with me in a matter of days. I found it to be excellent service.

From my experiences with Yorkshire Bank I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Summary: A friendly and efficient bank that offers a secure and user friendly internet banking system.
