...opened an account with the Yorkshire Building Society. I didn’t want to, but we eventually had little or no alternative. Sounds odd? Let me tell you our story.
As most of you know Dave and I have recently purchased a house in Llandudno and my parents have moved in with us. They occupy the ground floor of the house and Dave and I have the remaining two floors. It was decided that they would pay an amount of ‘rent’ each week and we would deal with ... ...exercise and discovered that the Yorkshire Building Society in Llandudno’s main street offered the same type of account. I collected the necessary forms for my parents to complete, feeling very pleased with my find.
I got them to fill in the form to open the joint account and the two forms to request the interest to be paid gross as they do not pay income tax and we all set off to the Yorkshire Building Society.
I had left the actual signing of ...

...members. In layman's terms, the Yorkshire is OWNED by the people who have accounts, mortgages and loans at the society.
Because the Yorkshire is not owned by greedy shareholders, this means they do not make a great big wad of profit to give to them, and anything they do make goes back to the members of the society. OK so they have to make some money to pay staff wages and the chairman will be on a decent wage but anything on top of that goes back ... ...dad put it into the Yorkshire Bank (not the BS) access saver account which you had to give three months' notice to withdraw cash or risk losing the interest. "The Yorkshire was the first building society to commit itself to remaining a mutual at a time when some of our rivals decided to become banks. In this and many other ways, we have led the way in demonstrating that membership of a mutual building society brings a whole range ... ...have a nationwide network of 131 branches including ones in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Norwich, Cardiff, Bristol and London, and are backed up by a network of agencies. Advantages: Great interest Disadvantages: sad name of account :-)
..."Happy kids" account at the Yorkshire Building Society. Aside from the sad name, it pays brilliant interest! When I started at the society, it was 6,75% but since then it has dropped to 6,55 and 6,25 now but thats still pretty good, the lowering in intrest is owing to the recent drop from the Bank of England. I know the Nationwide offers over 7% but the service at teh Yorkshires brilliany and besides, the Yorkshires based in Bradford and I'm happy ...
