Advantages: Makes national news relevant. Good for job searches. Disadvantages: Not always the top quality writing you'd find a in broadsheet paper.
The Yorkshire Post is not just any old local newspaper. It is a 'national' broadsheet for Yorkshire!
This paper has a fair amount of national and international news, as well as the more specifically local features and news items. These differ according to region, e.g. it is very Leeds biased, but buy it in Hull and you will find some more items relevant to this area.

An informative and light-hearted paper, this is a publication which is aware that a world exists outside London, and is useful for making national news items and politics relevant to us 'northerners'. The Yorkshire Post is intellegently written and veers toward the liberal, although it sometimes suffers from local newspaper syndrome with school sotires and the like. However, I personally think it is a great way of feeling a part of your community without compromising on the quality of your paper.
The supplement sections, when they appear, are not as good value for money as the big broadsheets. The job section is excellent and covers all types of job/ career in the area and further afield.
The Yorkshire Post is complemeted by papers which are actually local, such as the Evening Post and it is worth bearing this in mind if you are looking for specific local infomation.
Best if you like in Leeds or West Yorkshire, but worth a look wherever you live!

Each day, three top stories from UK, World and Sports news are given considerably more in-depth coverage, with anything up to 500 words of editorial, quoting passages from all the top daily newspapers (The Times, The Independent, The Guardian, The Mirror and so on).
There's no coverage of The Mail and The Express, of course, because they do not currently have websites. However, there is a good mix of national and regional with occasional articles from The YorkshirePost, The Manchester Evening News, The Evening Standard (London) and frequently The Scotsman.
Once you've registered, you don't even need to visit the site any more - you can have all the stories delivered direct to you every day by email. ...

PHEW What A Scorcher! Water Place to Park and Traders Warn of Shortages ? these are some of the Annually Repeated Stories (ARS) that appear in the Yorkshire Evening Press.
The Yorkshire Evening Press is published in York by Newsquest group who are owned by Gannett, who claim to be one of the world?s largest newspaper publishers.
The paper comes out in broadsheet format Monday-Friday and for some reason changes to a tabloid on Saturdays! The weekday paper is usually 24 pages, but can be thinner at the start of the week. Cover price is 32p.
The paper is not to be confused with the Yorkshire Evening Post, sister paper to the YorkshirePost which is produced in Leeds and tends to be a superior product.
