If something funny or peculiar happens five will get you ten that someone has it up on You Tube in seconds. For instance Tod's exit from the rink on Dancing on Ice, which apparently has had over a million hits……………extraordinary. Question is, is this testament to You Tube or Tod. Well it's probably a bit of both; it's not going to happen if one participant is missing.
Three former Pay Pal employees created You Tube in February of 2005, in November of the following year it was bought by Google for $1.65 billion. It is now run by a subsidiary of Google from its base in San Bruno, California. It uses Adobe technology to allow the viewers to see the videos. It is basically a video sharing website whereby you watch other
people uploaded content, there are occasional problems with copyright, since many blatantly just copy from legitimate sites and upload to You Tube without paying any royalties.
In order to upload your own video content you must first register your details. This is a simple process, which is pretty much standardised these days. Once registered you will have a username and password all you need to upload your creative masterpieces for Global acceptance or Global rejection. The website itself is very easy to navigate and the search engine although perhaps a bit slow sometimes does find you an extensive list of content, so being a bit more precise with you search criteria will result is a closer find to what you are actually looking for. Alternatively you can simply browse the site through the selected pages. If you find an uploader who consistently uploads material you like then you obviously can search by his or hers user name and add their content to your You Tube favourites.
By adding other users to your favourites you are in a better position to use the message function, which will let you, send a message. Hence on the right hand side of the home page once you have logged in you will find an Inbox with it current status i.e. messages or no messages. In this section you will also notice that there is an option to see the friend invites you have received along with any video comments.
The options from the Homepage are; Home, where you can look at newly uploaded general videos, along with some featured content selected by You Tube. There is also the possibility here to view some promoted videos. On this page is also a small box, which will guide you towards any subscriptions you wish to make. This is an option you are given after watching a video whereby should this user upload any more content you subscription box will notify you.
The next option on the Homepage is Videos. Here you're given a selection of the most popular by rating and the most viewed. To the right of these selections is a category list so that you can reduce the amount of videos selected to suit your preferences. In this manner the next option Channels operates to. The final option is that of Community where you can join or create groups of interest.
There are multitudes of Videos uploaded to the sit daily so thee is always going to be something new. Well I say new it is usually just someone else's take on something someone ha already done. That is not to say there are not innovative and inspiring videos, indeed there are many, but unless you know what exactly you are looking for you could be searching for ages and still not find it.
My particular favourites are the old music videos, and I mean old way back to the fifties. Nostalgia isn't a bad thing though, and in this respect You Tube can be of considerable help. Old news clips old TV clips you had almost forgotten about. All in all there is a lot of engaging entertainment to found on You Tube, but sometimes unfortunately you have to sift through a whole heap of garbage to get there. Lots of quality and different content, but also lots of crap and just total rubbish. Some clips I wonder why someone actually took the time to make and upload, and the answer to that is to make a fortune out of becoming famous on You Tube.
A great site just to browse and have a laugh, or even search for something a bit more serious should you wish, but a great site and one that gives countless thousands a lot of joy. So for that fact alone it's got to be recommended.
