This book is the follow on from 'The Luxury of Time', and tells the story of Jane Tomlinson's remarkle battle against cancer. While many people would lie down and accept the fight, Jane undertakes a set of challenges which would be hard enough for the fittest people to complete, never mind somebody suffering from terminal cancer. This book covers her journeys - from her bicycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End, her 'Rome to Home' bicycle challenge, her Ironman, her cycle ride across America, amongst other gruelling challenges.
This book has both Jane and her husband Mike telling their own parts of the story. Jane begins, and it alternates around between her and Mike. You know whose part it is as each section is headed with either Jane or Mike. The book is broken up into 12 chapters too, and at the start of each chapter it tells you what date they are on in the story. The story begins at January 2003, and covers until the end of 2006, so it covers quite a long spell of time.
The first challenge that Jane undertakes is the cycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End with her brother Luke. This book is Jane and Mike's story but I would have been interested to hear something from Luke in this part.
This is a really humbling story. It tells the story of a real heroine, who stood up and fought the cancer that was killing her just to prove that she could and also to help other people with the money that she raised. It goes through many emotions as it lets you know what her family have gone through too - cancer doesn't just strike the cancer victim, it stikes the whole family.
You could read this book without having read the first one - 'The Luxury of Time' - but I think it helps to have read it, just to know what Jane has gone through previously to the challenges in this book. It is definately worth a read, it is a truly inspirational story. I challenge anybody who is feeling sorry for themselves to read this story.
