There always seems to be some craze or another for children’s toys.

Since I have had children, there seems to be a new craze every year. We’ve had yo yos, roller blades, in line skates, roller boots, furbies, teletubbies, poochi’s and pokemon to name but a few. Apart from that, we made do with a bit of elastic to do french skipping, or a bit of wool for doing cat's cradles. I'm beginning to sound ancient here so we'll move on......

I was surfing the net a few weeks ago looking for beanie babies for my daughter as part of her birthday present in May.
On a couple of sites, I caught sight of a heading saying “Yucky Yo Yo Balls, pre-order yours now, the latest craze to sweep Britain”.
After the third time of seeing this sign, never one to miss something new, I decided to have a peek. As they were only 79p I decided to order a couple for the children, so they could try them out, as they both loved yo yos when they were the latest thing, and Amber had recently rescued hers from a man eating dustball under the deep dark realms of her bed.
Basically the yo yo balls are made of rubber. The ball itself is very squidgy, and for some reason reminds me of a man’s testicle but we won’t go there.
The yo yo balls are one solid unit, the ball has squashy, rubbery, knobbly bits all over it with a rubber string type device, looped at one end, from which you hold it and do “your tricks”
Basically it’s a derivation of the yo yo but as its one rubbery mass and hasn’t got a string, instead it’s got a rubber bit(!), you haven’t got as much chance of getting it all tangled up.
The ball can be bounced or punched against your hand, thrown at walls, and it will bounce straight back to you. It can be used to demonstrate the art of bouncing a ball, and can be made to look quite impressive once you get the hang of it.
A good fun toy with a really nice price. These can be ordered from www.ryebypost.co.uk and the kids all seem to love them. They are “taking off” in a big way now in our area and I must admit they are a good stress reliever, be it bouncing, throwing or just squidging that “knobbly squashy squishy bit”
PS I have been informed by other members that there have been incidents of children being strangled by these, if left unattended. Please be aware that if your child has one of these, to keep your eye on them at all times.
