Last Christmas my mother very kindly refrained from buying me a wooly jumper or socks and instead came up trumps when she gave me a very swanky looking Yves Saint Laurent gift set. Inside it contained a gorgeous pink makeup bag, the infamous YSL Touche Eclat and a Golden Gloss lip gloss. My mother has never been one to hunt out a bargain so she paid an extortionate price for the set from Harrods. For those of you who are interested in the lip gloss, a little research on the internet should get you a better deal. Ciao lists Strawberry Net as selling this lip gloss in a range of colours for £20.50 which includes free shipping.

The lip gloss itself is quite stylishly presented in a rectangular 'tube' with a gold lid that bears the YSL logo. So if you fancy yourself as a bit of a poser, you're sure to get some yearning looks when you show off your Golden Gloss lip gloss.

Using the gloss is simple as there's a brush applicator in the lid which makes application a doddle. The gloss is thick enough not to drip when you remove the brush and one application of the gloss is enough to last a few hours. Unfortunately, my Golden Gloss has been well loved over the last 11 months and so the name of the colour has worn off the bottom of the container. I've therefore plumped for writing this review against the gloss that looks most similar in Ciao's picture to mine.

That said, my Golden Gloss is a rather alarming fuchsia colour with lots of small flecks of gold glitter. When applied though, the colour is far more subtle and creates a healthy looking raspberry hue on my lips, with the added soft shimmer of the gold glitter. Surprisingly, the glitter doesn't feel at all gritty or sharp on my lips and the gloss makes my lips feel soft and moisturized.

An added bonus for me is the slight aroma and flavour of watermelon. I'm not sure if this is specific to the particular colour I own, or if all the glosses in the Golden Gloss range share this feature. It's a nice extra though and helps to convince me that this gloss might actually be worth the hefty price tag!

I don't use this gloss every day as I'm a bit of lipgloss addict so there tends to be at least 3 different glosses knocking about in my handbag at any one time. That said, it's still over half full so I would expect it to last a good 2 to 3 months if you were planning on daily use. Whilst the gloss does last well, it doesn't claim to be infallible so you will need to reapply the lip gloss after eating or when the effects begin to wear off. It's so simple to do and the precision of the brush means you won't even need to have a mirror to hand. Some people may prefer to stay away from this product if they prefer a lip gloss that will last all day. Unfortunately, despite the hype of many products, I've yet to find one that actually lasts any longer than all the other glosses on the market.

Whilst I do like using my YSL Golden Gloss, I doubt I would rush to buy a new one when it runs out. As part of a gift set, it's a great addition to any girl's makeup bag, but on its own, it doesn't really warrant the price. That said, if you simply can't resist, at least try to hold out for a YSL gift with purchase event. That way, you may receive a little something extra as a thank you for spending such an extortionate sum of money on what is, for all intents and purposes, just a lip gloss.
