The Smells From Hell Kouros…Mmmmm! You know the old story ladies. When you meet ‘em you are gagging because they are wearing the entire bottle of body spray. When you marry ‘em you are gagging because they are producing their OWN form of body spray by the bottle loads and insisting it is a MANLY smell! Right, you now discover MEN, (or at least yours) STINK! Yeah, we know these men. So, we spend the next few years forming and shaping our lovely men, until we finally convince them they can’t possibly live without us. That job done, we can threaten to leave them if they don’t quit wearing those manly smells without using some form of REAL body spray to cover it up! So, they reluctantly agree to try SOMETHING, but yet everything you buy (as there is NO WAY they are going to give in so far as to buy their own), is not quite right. Its…eww that stinks, or that is too strong, or that gives me a headache, or that makes me gag! You quickly tell them that so do they stink, and smell too strong and give you a headache and make you gag when they fart and burp and sweat, so they need this smelly stuff! After nine years, my hubby has now started losing his fear of letting people know he cares, (well after nine years of marriage the ‘guys’ start to catch on that you must love your wife if you are still with her, so the gig is up), and has decided it is safe to start smelling nice again. The only problem is, he, like I really IS allergic to very strong smells and they DO give him a headache. Dear oh dear, if only this was true about his farts…eh? So, what do you do? Well, for starters, you can read this, if you suffer from the same.
The Purchase We were on holiday this year, and waiting for our boat to depart France and take us back to England. We had already eaten, and we were walking around bored. So, since you don’t want to eat, you only have going toilet and shopping as an option. Right, SHOPPING WINS! So, we go to duty free. Hubby ever so kindly says, ‘Honey, would you like me to buy some cologne today?’ I came to quickly (after passing out at hearing this suggestion from him), realizing that if I didn’t, it would get too late to shop, and I would miss this rare opportunity. So, being careful not to put him off, I said, ‘Sure honey, if you want to.’ Being very careful to subtly remind him this is HIS idea and NOT mine. After all, being MY idea might put him off. These situations are VERY delicate. So, we went in to duty free to the lovely cologne section. The SMELL in there is so strong when you are sensitive to strong smells. I immediately got a headache. Then lucky us, he came across something he recognized from long ago, that he thought he might like. KOUROS! So we bought it.

What is Yves St Laurent Kouros? Listed in the ingredients, of which listed items are readable that is, it says that Kouros includes water (ooh there’s a surprise!), fragrance (well now lets not give anything away) and then two more interesting ingredients, oakmoss and treemoss. There are two reasons this is important in this review. One, some people will know right away that they may be allergic to this. It seems to me somewhere in my distant memory that moss can be a strong allergen in some people. SO, it is important to let you know it is in here. The other reason I find these two ingredients are important to this review is because they are as close as you get to having any idea what it smells like in a factual sense. The rest will be my opinion of the smell. And even though I can tell you what I think it smells like, I cannot give you any facts other than those two ingredients to describe it. Who knows, maybe a few men’s fragrances include these and you will have some clue. From an opinion point of view, I can tell you that it is a very smooth smell with no muskiness (I am not too keen on musky smells). It has a very slight aroma of soap that adds a fresh clean essence. There is also a certain male strength to it. What does that last sentence mean? I can’t explain it really. It is just that it gets you in the stomach. When I smell this on my hubby, it just smells really sexy and arousing really. It just has strength to it that says strong and masculine and fart free! I also like the name. It sounds so, Greek. And I don’t know about you, but in America a Greek man is symbolic with sexiness and charm. The best part of this is, that it is not at all overwhelming. It has a nice strong smell that stays with you, and yet it doesn’t overpower you. It tends to blend with my husband’s natural body aromas and give them a fresh scent, (not the farty ones of course, but just the natural day-to-day human smell). So, basically, it has a fresh, smooth (like leather has a smooth smell if you can connect with that), sexy smell. He likes it, and I LOVE IT! The best part is, it doesn’t give either of us a headache. There is no flowery, fruity, leathery smell that seems to be the only association with most colognes. It is just plain nice!
The Look Well, to me that is hardly important. It is mostly the smell you want. But, I guess it WOULD aid a new buyer in finding what they are looking for. The box is dark navy blue (nearly black), with a white border like design that is outlined in shiny silver. The word KOUROS is written in caps across the middle, also in white with silver outline. Across the bottom is the size and weight written in silver, then a silver underline that goes the width of the box, and under that is the name brand Yves Saint Laurent in logo style writing also in silver. On the bottom side of the box it informs you amongst other various, non-necessary information, that this is a product that was made in Paris, France (as a LOT of the best parfumes/colognes are!)
Inside the box, is the bottle. The bottle is an elongated square that forms the base, and a squat smaller square that sits on top of the base, and is pushed to expel the spray. The entire bottle is white with silver writing and shiny chrome looking silver trim.
The bottle we have is 3.3 fl oz / 100 ml
The price: We got ours, as said previously, at the duty free shop whilst waiting to board the Hoverspeed at the French port. We paid just on £20. But, you can get it for nearly the same price off of Kelkoo.co.uk for £25 for 100ml. The Designer Discount online shop has it for £25 for 50 ml. SO, as always, SHOP AROUND! It is definitely worth its cost to me, and we will be keeping it in good supply when we travel each year!
The Rating: I give this cologne full marks! It is reasonably priced and smells wonderful without being overpowering. It always has a very sexy aroma. How a cologne does that I do not know. But they do, therefore I expect it in a men’s cologne. This cologne does the job it is designed to do, and at a respectable cost. FULL MARKS, no complaints. What’s that honey? The baby kicked? Oh yeah, I suppose that could be ONE downside if you weren’t planning another child! Hehehe Author’s Note: NO my hubby is not henpecked, these stories are only ‘based on truth’ and much is added simply for the humour factor to make this review readable. And more importantly, NO IM NOT PREGNANT! I just thought that would be funny! Did it work?
Advantages: A QUALITY AFTER SHAVE! Disadvantages: MAY HAVE TOO MANY WOMEN CHASING YOU WEARING THIS!
This has got to be the most sexiest aftershave i have ever had the pleasure of smelling.
It is the best present any female could buy her other half for a present, as they won't be disappointed with the results.
I often ask Alasdair to go and put it on just to get a whiff of it.
It is extremely popular with the men and any man who hasn't tried it yet should go and get some.
A survey of ten women were asked by myself for research purposes and nine ... ...This aftershave comes in a nice blue and silver decorated box.

Advantages: A sexy fragrance that lingers in the mind and on the pillow! Disadvantages: None
My review in a nutshell: 20 years after I my first whiff of YSL Kouros on a man, the memory of that fragrance still haunts my mind! For many years, it was the only fragrance I would use when I was planning a special evening as the scent of Kouros is something very special which has to be experienced to be understood. One thing that particularly stands out in my mind is the very light, almost ethereal scent of Kouros left on the pillow in the morning ... ...Now that I'm a middle aged man who no longer spends time in the clubs, I'm less inclined to spend my hard-earned money on expensive colognes. With that said, there is someone new who has appeared in my life that has taken notice of the every-day fragrances I use. I've just purchased a new bottle of Kouros in hopes that maybe in 20 years he too will be haunted by the scent of this wonderful cologne and memories of me. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Yves Saint Laurent Kouros"
Advantages: For older fellers, not bad price Disadvantages: Uncool for anyone between 14-30
YvesSaintLaurent is still a pretty fashionable brand but Kouros is a little out of date, unless you are a 45 year old bloke with 2 kids and mortgage troubles (AKA my dad). My dad gets a bottle of Kouros each year (Christmas pressie) and loves the stuff. The aftershave comes in a tall white bottle with an easy-to-undo cap that is lined with silver. The container itself does look pretty stylish and modern and is functional.
This is certainly an aftershave for the older man. The smell, although it is virtually impossible to describe a smell, is original but not as sharp as more modern aftershaves. Things like Hugo Boss or Burberry have very ?fresh? and sharp smells however Kouros is more subtle and musky and powerful.
It is an aftershave for all occasions and probably not the sort of thing you would wear if you are going out ...
Advantages: sexy scent Disadvantages: none, unless you don't like the smell
I wanted to give my opinion on Kouros even though i don't wear it.You see i am a woman so i haven't worn kouros, but i have bought it for my husband.I remember in my youth all the boys used to smell of either brut or insignia, and then my father while away on holidays bought back something called Kouros, shortly after this i moved away to england to live.
It was while living in england, and in a party one night that i first smelt Kouros, and i have to say that as soon as one whiff hit my nostrils i was in love. Not with the person wearing it, but with the aftershave itself. At the time i had never smelt anything like it before it was a grown up fragrance.Which to me said i am a man.
Maybe it's because it's the first aftershave (of the more expensive range) that i had smelt, because since then i also love the smell of other aftershaves ...
Advantages: Takes you back to your youth Disadvantages: Outdated, sickly smelling
This aftershave was 'in' during the mid-80's.
At the time it was a really sexy number - only the really good-looking lads wore this one.
Nowadays whenever I smell it I get a mixture of feelings. My first reaction is that I immediately get transported to my halycon days of youth. I then look at the guy wearing it - he is almost always 40+ and trying his best to be a young hip with-it type of guy (and usually failing).
Unfortunately nowadays I think the only type of man who will wear this aftershave is one who is stuck in a time-warp and had once heard a woman comment that Kouros was a sexy aftershave and has worn it ever since.
However, I think it now has the same stigma as Brut. What a shame, eh? ...
