After recently replacing my very unreliable Indesit washing machine with the very efficient Zanussi FDJ1666W, I certainly wasn’t expecting to be in the unfortunate position to have to replace my tumble dryer.
However, as fate would have it, my 18 year old full-size Hotpoint, which had been passed through 2 family members, decided to stop tumbling and exhale short bursts of cold air. I was stunned. But there again, there was no shame to my Hotpoint. So I decided to pay another visit to Curry’s.
Once again, like I did with my washing machine, my first port of call was my darling Ciao. I must admit, I didn’t look at a lot of the reviews for other brands, as I had virtually decided to buy a Zanussi dryer, as I was so impressed by their washing machines that I thought their tumble dryers would be just as good, and I’ve been proved right.
However, this time, instead of taking a day off, like I did when I bought my washing machine, I went at night, as my local Curry’s is open until 8pm.
By fate, as I was looking at the selection of dryers they had on offer, the salesperson who approached me was the one who sold me my washing machine only a few weeks earlier. He laughed as I told him what had happened, but he said things like that happen very often in some cases.
So down to the nitty gritty. The selection of my dryer. After looking at the likes of White Knight, Creda and my old friend Hotpoint (White Knight and Creda are both manufactured by Hotpoint), I came upon Zanussi.
I was sold there and then. I decided on the TCE7124W Condenser Dryer. I was informed that this model was in the new XC6 range of washing machines and tumble dryers. That sounded good as my washing machine is in the XC6 range.
My dryer was £299, which I thought was reasonable compared to some of the others I’d looked at. I could have bought a much cheaper model by a different manufacturer, but whether I’d be guaranteed a reliable machine, well that was a risk I wasn’t prepared to take.
I was offered the service of home delivery, but as with my washing machine, I had a friend to help me transport it home, should it have been in stock, which it was.
So here goes, my report on the Zanussi TCE7124 Condenser Dryer:
My house has a very big kitchen, which is just as well, as I would be panicking otherwise. Having removed my ancient Hotpoint, my Zanussi slots in beside its big brother and even if I say so myself, looks a pretty amazing piece of equipment.
Features on the dryer are as follows:
Reverse Action Drying Cycle:
The drum in the machine has a reserve action which helps keep the clothes from tangling and distributing the warm air evenly throughout the load.
Extra Large Load Capacity:
Like its washing machine counterpart, the dryer has a large 6kg drum for family-sized loads.
Electronic Sensor Controls:
The dryer has a selection of built-in sensor control programmes to suit a wide selection of fabrics. These include a Wring Dry programme which extracts only a small amount of water to a Extra Dry programme for fabrics such as Cotton. The Sensor also detects when the load is completely dry, therefore stopping the drying cycle and therefore saving energy and electricity.
Extra Large Porthole Opening:
This model has an impressive door which give advanced access for loading and unloading your clothes. Measuring 434mm, it is the largest currently available on the consumer market.
Twin Temperature Drying Facility:
The Condenser Dryers have new drying programmes for faster results enabling less energy use. One motor is used to control two built-in fans creating a unique suction rather than the usual compression. This also considerably decreases the humidity released into your kitchen.
Dual Filtration:
The dryer is fitted with a dual filtration system with one situated in the door and one at the porthole to maximise the extraction of fluff particles.
Dry Fresh Programme:
This programme is excellent to refresh and remove stale odours from fabrics. It is designed suitably for use with dry clean only garments.
Auto Cool-Down & Cool Tumble:
The remaining few minutes of the drying cycle are a refreshing cool tumble to invigorate fabrics. The dryer also features a cool tumble for fabrics which require that extra attention.
90 Minute Personal Select Timer:
This is ideal for heavier items and lets you decide how long you wish the cycle to run for.
Mains On/Off Light
Other Information:
The dimensions of the machine are as follows:
Width: 60cm Height: 85cm Depth: 58cm
Dryer Design:
The new dryers have been radically designed for style and improved functionality. Controls and graphics are set clearly for easy use and a new door design allows it to be opened even with a full washing basket in front of it.
Conclusion:
I did think for a while that maybe I should have bought another Hotpoint dryer, but after contemplation, I decided that so soon after buying a new washing machine, it would make sense to buy a compatible dryer from the same manufacturer. Up till now, I’m very impressed with its drying ability, and unlike my Hotpoint, certain clothes come out the dryer requiring little or no ironing.
I’d recommend a Zanussi tumble dryer just as much as I would a Zanussi washing machine machine. They may cost a little more, but you get what you pay for. I’ve found through experience, that if you buy a cheaper alternative, you often have to replace it sooner than you would if you’d spent more on another brand.

...date. I was recommended Zanussi by a family member and having bought all of my kitchen appliances at the same time, I wish I had chosen Zanussi for the other appliances as I have needed parts replacing on my other products recently. I find it very easy to use and tend to stick to the same programme for all my drying. The water is easy to empty. I have found that occasionally when I replace the empty water collector and continue the drying it will ...

...with the vent.
This Zanussi Condenser 7124w dryer was the choice. It was relatively inexpensive considering that there still doesn't seem to be as great a choice of this type of dryer as there are vented ones with the hoses.
The only thing I would say about it is that it is quite noisy. The kitchen door has to be kept shut when in use due to noise carrying through the house. That said, it has a water container up to 5kg which you empty when full, ...
