Zanussi-Electrolux ZDS231

We bought the silver version of this machine (ZDS231S) to install in our new kitchen. Initial thoughts were that it was lightweight and a bit flimsy. Indeed, the door and catch mechanism do not instill confidence, but thus far, they have not caused problems, although I'm sure we'll be questioning their longevity later.

It is very straightforward to use and has a good selection of programmes, including a brilliant 30min quick wash at 60deg - this is great for dinner parties or when you really dont have time to wait, although note that the dishes are not dried on this cycle. The other programmes are as you would expect, with the economy mode at 50deg taking around 2 hrs to complete. There is also a 3hr time delay to take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity tariffs.

Raising the top basket to its higher position gives ample clearance in the lower basket for large plates etc, and even some long knives will fit in the cutlery basket without blocking the rotor arms. The cutlery basket itself is fitted with a completely useless grid system, but this just pops off and you can put the cutlery in as normal. No problems with stacking or items falling over during the wash and it accommodates the needs of a small family quite happily.

Wash performance is very good in comparison to the Whirlpool and Hotpoint machines we've had before. Certainly, the "Active Drying" condensing system appears to be effective at getting the dishes dry at the end of the cycle.

PROS:
Looks neat and stylish, with uncluttered fascia and logical controls.
Good wash performance.
Very useful quick wash at 60deg function, which is perhaps all some people will need.

CONS:
I found it noisy, both when washing and pumping.
Feels lightweight - would have preferred a weighted door and a spring-catch door handle mechanism.

All said, it washes the dishes well and I'm pleased with it to the point that we later bought a Zanussi washing machine to go with it.
