I ordered my new oven from Argos just a few months ago for the bargain price of £449.99. It is a White electric Zanussi-Electrolux ZKC5540W and it is sold as a double oven with a separate grill. This oven is also available in Silver and Stainless Steel but it does cost slightly more at a cost of around £549.99.
So why did I plump for the oven, well other than the fact it was currently on sale and I was saving myself £100 it is exactly the same Oven that my Mother-in-law has and it possesses everything that I need and it comes with a one year warranty.
There are three separate compartments to this oven, firstly we have the hob which is glass ceramic and black in colour and it has 4 fast heat separate hobs which light up red when they are switched on. To activate the hob there are four separate knobs which can be turned to different heat levels depending on what kind of heat you want. The top is easy to wipe clean after any spillages and because it is glass your pans will be much more stable than one with hobs which are slightly raised as with some ovens.
The outside of the oven is ceremaic and therefore really easy to wipe if there are any spillages.
Next we have the medium sized top oven also known as the grill which has one shelf and comes with a grill pan with a detachable handle. The door which you can view the grill through is double glazed and this means that should you place your hand on this window it doesn't burn your hand because it doesn't get hot but it also acts as a heat insulator and the handle you use to open the door on either the top or bottom oven is made of a hard plastic which also does not get hot. It can also be used as a top oven as well as a grill and performs the same function as the bottom oven.
The fan operated oven has an electronic clock and programmer so that you can set the oven to a particular time when cooking; it heats up to 210 degrees. The reason I opted for a fan oven is because the air is circulated by the fan within the oven to ensure your food is cooked faster and more evenly. You will also find with this cooker that there is a timer which can be programmed to auto start the main oven and switch off when finished and for me this is a god send, especially once the phone rings and I either forget to switch the oven on or switch it off.
Inside the oven there is a light which comes on when the oven is switched on to cook, also inside the oven you will also find two shelves which consist of two metal grates, similar to that which can be found in the grill and they can be placed in six different levels to cook your food. This oven door, like the grill is also double glazed and has a see through window, this means you can view the oven contents and check on them without opening the door and essentially causing the temperature within the oven to drop.
Now this oven is marked as Energy Class A and what that means it is the most energy efficient model that there is which equates to me using less electric and essentially my electric bills will be much lower. It uses heat to cook or in John's case burn the food.
This oven can be purchased from most kitchen appliance shops such as MFI, Comet and Dixons and as I mentioned earlier in my review the price does differ slightly between having a conventional white coloured oven and a Silver one so definitely shop around to find a price which you are happy to pay.
Advantages: Fast and even cooking Disadvantages: grill pan not great
I've owned this oven for a couple of months now and I have to say its a joy to use. I opted for the stainless steel version which cost £549 but looked so much better than the white version. It easy to clean, fantastically quick at cooking anything and unlike my last fan assisted oven, very quiet. I only have one complaint about this product and that is the grill pan. On several occassions it has fell off the shelf at the back and the wire rack is ... ...easy to lose food off the rack into the pan, but generally I think its the best oven I've ever owned (as well as the most expensive), the inside light is really handy especially when it comes to cleaning inside the oven, and although its a double oven I've never had to use the top oven as the main one is pretty big, although christmas is coming so I wont rule it out. The rings heat up really quickly and cool down pretty quick too unlike those hot ...
