When we replaced our fridge-freezer I was specifically looking for a larger fridge compartment as well as a good sized freezer. I have always been used to, and liked Zanussi as I was brought up with them. My mom swears by them and our first washing machine was a 15 year old Zanussi of hers. Understandably they were one of the makes we looked and after several comparisons we chose this Zanussi ZNB343W.
The price was reasonable everywhere but we got it from Sainsbury for £297.00 in the sale. We used our nectar points to bring the price down further and received almost 600 further points on the purchase.
The Zanussi ZNB343W is a frost free 60/40 fridge-freezer. The frost free freezing system stops ice building up inside the compartment so that you don’t have to defrost the freezer. It also means that ice doesn’t take up space that you could be using
for frozen food and if a freezer is over packed with ice this prevents it from maintaining the proper low temperature making it less economical
The 60/40 split indicates that the fridge is 20% larger than the freezer and we find both compartments to be a good size. Its exterior dimensions are H1850 x W595 x D632 mm and its internal capacity is 245 litres for the fridge and 78 litres for the freezer.
Its energy efficiency rating is A, (The EU energy label rates products from A, (the most efficient) to G (the least efficient). For refrigeration the EU energy label goes up to A++. By law, the label must be shown on all refrigeration appliances, electric tumble dryers, washing machines, washer dryers, dishwashers, electric ovens, air conditioners, lamps and light bulb packaging)
The freezer star rating is 4; Domestic freezers have a star rating that indicates the optimum temperature they are designed to function at. Stars; Designation; temperature; Storage
Ice box -6 degrees One week
* Ice box -12 degrees One month
** Ice box -18 degrees Three months
*** Freezer -18 degrees Long term Fast freeze temperature in a **** freezer is –26 degrees.
Its annual energy consumption is 357 Kwh and it has mechanical temperature controls consisting of a dial. It is CFC and HFC free and quiet in operation at 42 dB.the storage period in the event of a power failure is16 hours. It has reversible doors which are useful in our odd kitchen and it is only available in white.
The fridge ------------------- It has a very large capacity at 245 litres. In the fridge cavity are 4 shelves; 3 adjustable safety glass shelves and 1 non adjustable safety glass shelf over the salad draw. These are very easy to clean and have a protective white plastic edge. An included wine rack hangs from one of the shelves to make the most of the space. At the bottom are 2 very deep salad draws which hold loads. These are clear and also easy to wash. The fridge also has an excellent light; illuminating everything without blinding you in the dark.
In the door there is a full width door shelf, a full width bottle shelf and a full width dairy compartment with a removable egg tray. All of these are adjustable. Everything is well made with good solid plastic rather than the flimsy or brittle accessories you get with some manufacturers.
The freezer ------------------- This is frost free with a net capacity of 78 litres. The freezer compartment is split into three. The top draw is the narrowest compartment but is still large enough to hold plenty. We use this shelf for boxes items such as ready meals and is where we initially freeze home cooked foods. The middle draw is nice and deep and we use this for packets and home frozen foods. The bottom draw is called a maxi-box and is very deep and great for holding large items and will hold a large turkey come Christmas time
All the draws are transparent and well made. The draws are all in one piece which is great as our old one had clip on fronts which broke. The draws wipe clean easily and have no sharp edges to trap dirt or debris.
The Zanussi ZNB343W comes with a one year parts and labour guarantee
My opinion ------------------- This is a great fridge freezer and holds loads particularly in the fridge. I don’t know about you but I find I buy a lot of products nowadays which need storing in the fridge so this one is great; it holds everything I buy when I go shopping without being crammed. Not having to defrost is a godsend- no more days spent with a rolling pin, hairdryer or bowls of hot water.
It is very easy to clean and generally only needs wiping down inside. All the shelves including those in the door are removable for easy cleaning as are the freezer draws. It is very quiet and the sound level is given as 42 decibels, this doesn’t mean much to me but the only noise you hear is the occasional gurgle.
Everything about the Zanussi ZNB343W is well made and solid. I don’t know if it will last as long as my mom’s old Zanussi appliances but it should be good for a few year
