I was looking through the free sites on ciao and saw that my favourite site had not been reviewed! So here we are, I'm sharing my find with you.
www.zedge.no or www.zedge.co.uk (no difference)
So you know, this site does offer its items for free. Not like those other websites that have tiny little small print and subscribe you to their service - for a charge of £3.00 a week or more! The only charge you see on Zedge, will be when you go on WAP and recieve your product. The only people that will charge you is your service operator. Im on Virgin Mobile which is great value at 0.5p a kilobyte. The costs will differ depending on the size of the product.
Description ----------- Probably the largest and most popular mobile phone community in the world with over 900 000 registered members. Over 50% of visitors come from the UK.
Zedge member characteristics (based on survey) - The average member is a male, 24 year old. - The biggest segment is males between 17 and 22 years old. - 80% of the members are employed or are studying - Over the average computer/internet knowledge. - Especially interested in internet entertainment.
What does zedge mean? Nobody knows. Not even the people at Zedge - 'The baby must have a name :) As far as we know, it means nothing.'
Site Headings ========== *Register - A quick easy process that'll have you up and running in no time. Just a matter of filling in some of your personal and phone details.
*Forums - Talk in the forums with the topics zedge, general mobilephones, manufacturers, phone personalisation and entertainment and also a mobile free zone where you can talk about just about anything. Zedge does not tolerate spamming, flooding, bad words, flaming, insults, bullying, etc. You can also post your phone problems here, and recieve a reply in a matter of days.
*Z-Uploader - Here you can upload your own personal wallpaper - for free! Just choose the phone that the wallpaper should fit (or set a custom size), and then choose an image from your harddrive. You will then be able to frame the image as you like with the crop tool. I have just done this with one of my many darius pics and it cost me less than 10p to get it onto my phone!! Easy peasy.
*Name Logos - make your own name wallpaper.Pick the font, font colour, alignment and background. I've used this may times for all my phones as it adds that personal touch. (See example pic) There are many different backgrounds and fonts to choose from so you'll always be individual.
*The Upload Shack - You can upload any file from your computer, store it in the Zedge upload shack and retrieve it on your phone using WAP. There is 500KB available to be used up, and you can store absolutely anything from pictures, to text or music files. Never used this but it looks and sounds good.
*Phones Database - check out what your phone can do and what you can get from zedge for it. Find your phone from the large list available and it will show what the phones features are and what you can download from ciao. You can even compare two phones side by side. For my phone (motorola v220) I am given these options that I can download: Free wallpapers, Free name logo, Free Java / Symbian games, Free Java applications, Free ringtones, Free screensavers All this for the nice round figure of 0p!!
*Help & Info - If you aren't sure of how to use Zedge and how to use WAP to download your items you'll find all the answers here.
*My Account - Here you'll be able to find and change your registration details, WAP Account Details and you can also turn on Zedge WAP Mail which sends your email to your phone! Great to check if you have any new comments on reviews! In WAP account details you can see your personal WAP link, which I suggest you set as a bookmark on your phone, that automatically logs you in and saves you a few pence loading the log in page. Here you can also manage your Free downloads - it will show you a list of what items you have in your list to download, tell you when they were added and give you a preview of them.
ZEDGE have recently introduced SMS Ringtones. You have the option here to pay for your ringtones(who in their right mind would??) including mono-tones, polyphonics and realtones. They cost between £3-£4.50.
Now we come to the FREE part! ^ Free Themes - These high-quality themes are available for over 30 phones and there is a wide selection of categories - humour, technology, films, music, babes, hunks, sport and animals. ^ Free Wallpapers - Available for nearly over 100 phones including newer models. Same categories as above with a much wider range to choose from.You can also upload your own photos to make into wallpaper for public and personal use. ^ Free Videos - Just recently introduced to the site, due to popular demand, there are 26 free 3GP videos on the site. Though the videos are quite large in size so they may cost around a £1 to download and take up a lot of the phone memory. ^ Free Animations - Screensavers and gif files. I think these will work on nearly all phones and again some can be quite big so be wary of the file size if you dont want to pay a lot. ^ Free Ringtones - There are only a few ringtones here. Wave - 51, MP3 - only 1(a horse noise) and Midi-Polyphonic - 125. They are of good quality but they are not well known songs, just classical and sound effects. Good enough for me as I dont really go for the pop song ringtones. ^ Free Games - Java and Symbian games are available to download and there is quite a range - from bowling to snake to pacman. Check the size of the screen on the page is the same as your phone screen though as sometimes the game doesnt fit onto the screen properly. These can cost more as some games are very detailed and therefore have a bigger file size. ^ Free Applications - here you can find dictionaries, currency converters, calculators and even the periodic table! The list of phones compatible is along the bottom.

Recently Zedge changed their policy so you can now download 15 items to your PC each day. So when you have download your quota for today (say 7 themes, 4 wallpapers and 4 animations), you can come back the next day and start downloading again.
The best find of the century, Zedge does as it says and offers great quality mobile items to its member for no fee at all! Try it if only once, just to get your name logo or put your fav pic from your computer onto your phone for nothing.
I'll never go back to paying for anything for my phone now. Zedge does it for me! Who wants to pay when you can get it for free??

Advantages: Lovely Brad Pitt wallpapers and it only costs you the download time. Disadvantages: Ringtones aren't in the charts and the babes section might cause offence.
