Yes indeed, what IS a Zipfer?
You don't know? Well.... it's for fastening two sections of material together. You know, two rows of metal or plastic teeth on strips of tape and a sliding piece that closes an opening by drawing the teeth together....

Zipfer pours a crystal-clear, yellowish-golden colour with a huge, foamy head which doesn't retain well and consequently leaves little lace. Back to Vienna for a moment! The common beers – all pale lagers - (and in my order of preference) are Schremser, Otterkring, Gösser, Kaiser and Zipfer. The latter is the only one that I have found freely available in the UK and is immediately forgettable. I did ask on several occasions for a Schwarzen Bier and was only served it once. Produced by Hofbräu Kaltenhausen, it is a dark cloudy, almost muddy, wheat beer with a very strong hint of bananas which tasted far better than...

Carling, my most cherished of beverages, it may not have the taste quality or alcohol content of a Kronenbourg, but it is cheap. Carling is a middle strength lager at about 4.1%, nothing too special there, it is quite refreshing and crisp in taste but... more
Now, I don’t mean to offend. If I wanted to be more obnoxious then I could have quoted any number of other Bloodhound Gang lyrics. It was, in fact, a challenge to find one that wouldn’t have Abuse@Ciao swooping down on my account.
