Advantages: Fantastic value Disadvantages: No tremolo, delays don't very much

The Zoom 505 is probably the best multi-effects unit on the market. I know there are better sounding pedals, but the sheer value of this thing surpasses them all. I got mine second hand, with the external power supply and the expression pedal for £30. You can get the same package new for about £70 or £80. The 505 is a little 2-button pedal in a plastic case (which is actually quite strong), with 4 additional buttons for editing patches. There are various effects available: distortion (8 types), compression, wah, noise reduction, amp/speaker simulator, EQ, chorus, phasing, flanging, doubling, pitch-shifting, step filter (crazy!), reverb and delay. All of these effects are superb. Despite the limited editing features, you can usually get a patch you want. The flanger and phaser go really slow, there's plenty of chorus, the pitch-shifter includes several intersting harmonies - not just the standard octave above or octave below - and the reverbs (hall and room) are very pleasing. The omission of a tremolo was a bit dissapointing, though. The editing features, as I have said, are very limited. You only have the option to change one parameter for each effect type (in the form of 9 presets each). This does, however work very well, and the noly effect that I thought needed more variation in the given presets was the delay. There are several short delays with many repeats, then just one at the end with a long delay and 1 repeat. Oh, by the way, did I mention that this is a stereo effects unit? Some of the delays are ping-ponged (they bounce between the left and right speakers). AND there's a built-in chromatic tuner. Overall, the Zoom 505 is an amazing multi-effects pedal. I think the price tag is worth the whammy effects (with the expression pedal) and the step filter alone. It's worth combining the 505 with a separate distortion and delay, but whatever, this is great value. Every guitarist should have one.
Advantages: Great value, good looks, good build quality, large range of effects. Disadvantages: Fiddly interface, not helped by small buttons.
The Zoom 505 is a great little multi-effects pedal that offers superb value, coupled with great looks and build quality. The range of effects is astronomical given the price, ranging from the obligatory reverb and echo sounds, to the more interesting step and harmonic effects. Although customizing the 'patches' with your own effects is quite fiddly (especially given the size of the buttons on the pedal), the most inexperienced guitar player will ...
Advantages: So small and cheep Disadvantages: This is not a replacement for full blown rack effects
...processor not a single. The Zoom is one of the best value for money effects you will find on the market, mine cost less than £70 for the unit and the mains power supply! Compare that with a Boss single effects pedal at £70 each.
The Zoom has 9 different effects 7 of which can be selected at once. There are over thirty memory patches where you can configure your effects using up to 7 in one patch and with the unit sat on the floor its just a toe ... ...put in there pocket for practicing on the road. If you get one do a search on Yahoo for Zoom 505 patches and hundreds of other people have left there settings in various pages on the web for you to just tap in and sound similar to your favorite guitarist. ...

Advantages: Compact, cheap as chips, huge editability, great sound Disadvantages: Not for the professional gigging guitarist
...This is the revised Zoom 505II guitar effects pedal. The major difference from the original Zoom 505 is that it starts you off with 36 effects patches instead of the original's 24. Its a very small pedal, just 14x12 centimetres, but it packs a great punch. My version is the sleek silver one, but the design is the same, which ever colour you buy. The essence of the device is that it allowes the guitarist to utilise up to 36 patch effects, up to 9 ... ...If you're an indoors guitarist like me who wants to have good fun with his instrument, or maybe needs something extra for recording purposes, the Zoom 505II is the multi-effects pedal for you. At this sort of price, you've got absolutely nothing to lose. Buy one today! ...

Advantages: 24 effects for price of 1 Disadvantages: None
...I'm talking about is the Zoom 505 Compact, it's a single pedal multi effects processor that attaches the same way any other pedal does, and it's a clever little tool that removes the need for switch boxes and multiple foot switches, and runs via battery or mains adapter.
The basic unit is about twice the size of the average foot switch and has two pedals, by pressing both together it turns off all effects. The cool part is that you can program the ... ...your foot jump through them with ease.
Even if you don't program anything, you still get a standard selection of 24 effects.
The effects range from distortion to overdrive with it's built in amp simulator, and flange to delay with loads in between, and you can set it to use up to 9 different effects at once.
Another good thing about this unit is the built in auto chromatic guitar turner that is very accurate and simple to use even whilst gigging. ...

Advantages: Excellent Value For Money! Disadvantages: The "Space Age Plastic"
Well where can I start.
Ill cover the most valid points
Being a novice guitarist I started off with a Encroe guitar with a little 10 watt practice amp, as you can probably guessed after about 6 months I needed more! More!.
I first saw this effects pedal at a friends house but never actually saw it in action because he's a bum and cant be botherd to get some new batteries. :|
So I went looking for it as I loved the look and he recomended it for ... ...on GAK.com for 29.99 with a power adaptor free! no more power problems :P
So lets move on to the actual product. I must say one of the downfalls of the products is its poor user friendlyness but one you get the hang of it by flipping through the manual after finding your laguage in a mass of others.
Now onto the effects mostly very pleasing some of them sound pretty much the same the distortion in particular. You have over 33 banks on this beast ...

Advantages: good value for money, lots to do Disadvantages: cant think of many
This pedal is seems to have it all. The boys at Zoom have yet again come up with another pedal crammed with effects. These range from powerful distortions that make you feel like a metal god when thrasing something out (well my mate does when he tries and play my guitar.....pure noise pollution!!!) too wahs via chorus and over wobbly effects along the way.
This is the follow on pedal to the zoom505 which was smaller than this and had less "noises" on offer. The 707 includes a foot expression pedal too which is quite sturdy and makes the pedal more fun to mess around with.
The pedal comes supplied with in built patches, half of which you can wipe over with your own creations. Patch creation is done by selecting each section of a patch such as what type of main effect and what sort of extra things to be added to it by ...

. The specification is as follws:-
Output (RMS): 10W
Channels: 2 (clean and distortion)
Footswitchable Channels: none
CD Input: yes
Emulated Line Out: yes

Digital Effects: none
FDD: yes
Speaker: 1 x 6.5 in.
Dimensions: 295 x 310 x 190 mm

When I turned it on and plugged in, I couldn't believe how LOUD such a little amp could be. I play it in a relatively small room, but I rarely have the amp turned up more than 2-3 "clicks" on the volume controls (separate for clean and distorted channels). It's way, way louder than I would ever need. And it sounds terrific. Very clean and bright with an excellent distortion channel, much better than anything I could achieve with my old Sound City pedal. Now that I also have a Zoom505II effects pedal to go with it (see separate review), I ...
