Advantages Quick and Easy installation

Disadvantages Low wireless range

First of all I must congratulate Zoom for such a fantastic product. Out of all my experiences with wireless/wired routers including; Netgear, Belkin and Linkysys (Cisco), I have found the Zoom X6 Wireless ADSL router to be the most user-friendly router I have ever used.

In the box you will get; The wireless router, Power Lead, RJ5 cable (used to connect the router to a base unit in order to cingure the router softwar, once the software has been configured the RJ45 lead may be taken out as long as you have a wireless receiver, i.e. USB, PCMCIA or PCI), instruction manual and CD-ROM software.

The first thing to do when you open the box, lay out all your parts and make sure everything is there, then put the CD-ROM into your CD drive, the software is very straight forward and the whole setup process takes about 15 minutes to complete, alot quicker and less complicated than most. If you get stuck during the software installation the manual that accompanies the router gives you in depth detail as to how to continue with the installation.

In terms of speed, the Zoom X6 is a 54MBps router, thus meaning it is capable of sending 54MB's of information every second, realisticly speaking you would be able to run 1-6 computers (performaing regular tasks, i.e. Browsing the internet *not movie downloading*) off this router without experiencing much loss in internet connection speed.

The only disadvantage of this particular router is the range, the range in doors is about 30 meteres, and about 100 meteres outdoors.

I would very much recommend this router to anyone who is looking for an ADSL wireless router as it is so siple to setup and easy to use.

In addition a key selling point for this is the low running temperature, which is usually un-common in wireless routers, most routers are built using a malaysian chipset, the Zoom X6 included, so I am very impressed with the temperature. The only other router I have experienced with such low runnign temperatures are Netgear, who use a california chipset.

If I was to rate this product out of ten I would give it a 9/10, the drop in 1 point is purely down to the range of the router, but no doubt this will be improved in time.

Good review. It was interesting for you to point out the operating temperature. Could you have maybe mentioned a bit more about the unit's customisation/advanced functions? Many buyers will want to know how well they can tailor a router to meet their specific set up as well as those who just want a router which will plug in and work.
