on the side of the device (finer adjustment is accessible from the gain/input menus). Using an external mic (or a combination of int/ext) is simply a case of plugging them in and selecting the sound source from the input menu, and built-in phantom power means that virtually any mic can be used.
A very handy feature of the H4 is that it supports high capacity SD cards (up to 16GB), although these won't be much use unless you have a healthy supply of batteries, or use a 9V power adapter. The battery life is OK, but not stunning, however its easy enough to change the batteries quickly provided you don't run out!
Overall, the Zoom H4 does what it says on the tin very well - the recorded sound quality is fantastic, and its very light and portable. The only downside seems to be the daft jogger button which is used to navigate all of the menus, but ...
