Manufacturer's product description
The ZoomCam USB for Macintosh computers is an affordable, full-color, live-motion video camera that installs in seconds. It simply plugs into the USB port of your iMac or PowerMac G3. Since the computer's USB port provides power for the ZoomCam USB, no other connections are needed. The ZoomCam USB features a still-image capture resolution of up to 704 x 576 pixels. For subjects in motion, the ZoomCam USB's software-selectable frame rate can be as high as 30 fps in QCIF (Quarter Common Intermediate Format) mode. The ZoomCam USB's iMac-styled, ergonomic design lives comfortably on your monitor, desk, or just about anywhere. For flexibility and ease of placement, the camera's stable base is equipped with a rubber, anti-slip pad and threaded to accommodate a standard camera tripod. The ZoomCam USB is suitable for a wide variety of uses. Enjoy interactive videophone conversations or send video e-mail to family and friends via the Internet. Participate in video chats using the full retail version of White Pine's award-winning CU-See-Me software included with the camera. Increase the creativity and productivity of work time, too, with videoconferencing, presentation production and Web site imaging. The ZoomCam USB can even be used as a security camera or baby monitor. From tabletop closeups to boardroom group shots, the ZoomCam USB adjusts easily to capture nearly any image you desire. Its superior ¦1.5 multi-element, coated lens focuses from 1.5 inches to infinity. The camera's 60° wide angle view can take in an entire room while automatic exposure control, brightness and contrast adjustment, backlight compensation, and fluorescent light flicker correction assure crisp, clear images under a variety of conditions.
Advantages: fast, cheap, good quality. Disadvantages: limited pixels
...I own a Zoom USB web cam which cost me £50. I am happy to say it was worth it. You may ask why? Well it has a good picture even with artifical light, when i have the curtains open and the sun is out the picture is great. I think this is a great camera by Zoom http://www.zoom.com For £50 who can complain. I can now send my friends video mail, and take pictures easily to transfer over the internet to friends. If you want a cheap option to digital cameras, pick this. I recommend this to anyone with a decent PC. It also has a focus adjustment on the camera which is pretty cool, you can make a blurry affect if you want or have it sharp. Give this camera a chance and you will be pleased....

Advantages: Inexpensive and easy to use. Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...A cheeky little camera that is reletively inexpensive, easy to operate and provides reasonable picture quality both in video and still mode. I bought mine from PC world and it was priced in the mid range at £49. It provides for manual focus to bring the subject into reasonable clarity. It also provides an automatic zoom and move function where the user can zoom in on the subject and move the picture around. The software provided is ok but there are better software products available to use with this camera. If you are on a budget, you can't go too wrong with this camera particularly if it helps bring you closer to loved ones in far away places over the internet. I'd buy it again!...

Advantages: USB, Full Colour, Focus Ring, Auto Light Adjustment, Tripod Mount, Microphone Disadvantages: Out of Production, Cable Too Short, Software works only with Windows 9x
...The first thing I have to say is, that this is a review of a product that is now out of production and has been superseded. So this is likely only to be of interest to those who are looking at getting one of these cameras secondhand.
I have had my ZoomCam USB (1595) for over five years, so I have had a lot of time to assess its suitability as a web cam.
The most striking feature of this camera is its shape that, unlike almost every other camera produced at the time, is spherical. In fact it resembles a large pale grey eyeball, a highly appropriate shape and colour, very reminiscent of my own eyeballs after a heavy night in front of a hot computer. This eyeball shape is very widely used with today's cameras.
The camera sphere is mounted in a simple up/down pivot that forms part of the camera base. The base itself is a two...

Can't take my eyes off of you, you're just to good to be true are the lyrics from a great song that sprang into my mind when writing up this review about my new toy, the Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 digital camera.
