Its that time of year when most of us are prone to nasty colds, cracked lips and painful cold sores. The cold winter months are here and we all need to be extra careful as germs easily spread from one person to another. If your like me who gets cold sores every time I get the flu or cold then you know exactly how painful this feels. Its bad enough to have a stuffed up nose or a high fever let alone thumping blisters on your lips.

According to my Doctor most cold sores are brought about when feeling run down and in some cases when feeling depressed. In my case I seem to get them a lot in winter, my lips are sensitive to cold wintry weather, they become dry, sore and chapped, this and any slight contact with anyone who has a cold makes me vulnerable to cold sores. I cannot understand those people who come into work with a real bad cold and spread their germs around instead of staying at home until they have fully recovered.

What is a cold sore?

Believe it or not but it’s a form of herpes – this virus infection develops around the mouth and the lips. For those who have experienced cold sores will know how itchy and painful these blisters can be. Cold sores normally have a pattern before they are fully formed on the lip – the cold sore begins as;

RED SORE - RED SORE THAT TINGLES – A BURNING BLISTER

Cold sores look ugly and they can easily take two to three weeks before healing – some can even bleed as the crust can break before time, which will only prolong the healing process. Cold sores can easily spread and it is a highly contagious virus: so avoid the following:
  • Sharing Towels
  • For those of you who like to two’s on a cigarette then don’t
  • Don’t share cans of drink, mugs, glasses etc…..
  • Avoid kissing especially at the early stages of the cold sore.

How to treat those discomfort cold sores
*****************************************

I have tried most creams out there, Blissteeze, Blistex, Cymex, special lip gels. I’ve even tried spraying some perfume to try and dry the blister. – They all promise to do the same thing to soothe and get rid of your cold sores yet the only sound product that delivers in my experience has to be Zovirax.

Zovirax is a unique cream formula that works wonders - It comes in two forms either in a small tub or a squeezable tube – the Zovirax tube is slightly smaller than your ordinary lip relief tubes but seeing that only a small amount is needed to cure the cold sore the size really doesn’t matter because it really does work and therefore you do not need to apply as much – not like many of your lip creams where you need to apply and re-apply yet your cold sore is not really getting any better.

Zovirax works best in the early stages of a cold sore – the red sore stage where you start to feel a slight irritation on your lip, a stage where most people ignore. I don’t understand why most people wait for the blisters to fully break out before they decide to apply some form of cream. Zovirax has a special ingredient called aciclover, an ingredient that prevents the cold sore from forming if caught on time. It is these early stages that Zovirax should be applied.

Zovirax really does work – If applied on time you will notice how good this product is. Your cold sores will not form, the initial itchy and irritating feeling on your lip will soon go. The anti-viral ingredient cream blends well on the lips because not only does it prevent cold sores from developing but it also moisturizes and softens the lips, which also relieves dry, cracked and chapped lips.

Zovirax should be applied several times a day until you feel that tingly feeling go – say every 4 hours or so but you will find that applying once or twice will be enough to get rid of your cold sore. I cannot stress enough how good this product really is, it is handy to have in your first aid box, as you can never tell when a cold sore will form. So for around £5 to £6.00 (£5.70 to be exact) for a squeezable tube you can prevent from getting those nasty horrible looking blisters forming around your lips.

Bottom line:
*************
Zovirax is an excellent product for treating cold sores – a brilliant treatment that prevents cold sores from forming, providing you apply it on time. It actually works, something, which cannot be said about most remedies available. Although slightly more expensive than your other lip cream products it is still worth it because it is that good. I rather pay more for a product that works than pay less for a product that does nothing for me. If your cold sore is not caught on time Zovirax can still be used to heal and reduce the thumping and itchy feeling of the blister. I highly recommend this product to all those cold sore sufferers.

I had terrible cold sores a few weeks ago but unfortunately didn't get the zovirax in time. they kept bleeding and took a while to clear up. When I felt them coming on again last week I bought some zovirax and applied it and it has kept them at bay. Like you say if you apply it in time it really does work, good op!
