Power
Type: Power adapter
Voltage Required: AC 120/230 V
Software / system requirements
OS Required: Apple MacOS 8.6 or later, Microsoft Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP
Advantages: Very quick with firewire, quiet (no fan), sturdy and well-built, 4-6-pin firewire lead, looks cool! Disadvantages: No backup/partitioning software included
..., I timed various procedures:
(1) File copied from Hitachi 4200rpm laptop HD and re-saved at different location on same HD (drive was not empty but had been defragmented and error checked): 7m 2sec
(2) File copied from LaCie D2 7200rpm onto same disk (drive empty and freshly formatted): 56 secs
(3) File copied from Hitachi to LaCie using Firewire 400: 28 secs
(4) File moved (not copied) from Hitachi to LaCie using Firewire 400: 41 secs
(5) File copied from Hitachi to LaCie using USB 1.1 (my laptop doesn't have USB 2.0 unfortunately): 20m 18s
(native Windows XP driver to translate USB 1.1 signal through to the USB 2.0 port on drive may have caused the drastic slowdown here.)

It's a shame LaCie doesn't include any decent HDbackup/ghost software like Maxtor does but you can still...

Advantages: Extra power for your pod, replaceable batteries Disadvantages: Bulky, wont charge Ipod
...Does what it says on the box really.
What you have is a pack that holds 4 x AA batteries that your Ipod can run from. These batteries can be changed when they run out.
The pack has two suckers that 'stick' to the back of your Ipod and is held firmly to the backup pack and a cable that plugs into the base where the sync cable / dock station usually goes.
The downside is that the Ipod will only run from the pack and this will not charge your Ipod. The other downside is that it can become quite bulky especially if you want to place this in your pocket, case or something alone the lines of a tune dox (car holder).
The plus side is that you can have a limitless extra power supply and along with a series of four LED's will show you how much power is left....

Advantages: one button, reliability, lot of software Disadvantages: my system wants to boot from it
...Device is solid and reliable, case well protects the hard drive (dropped it once and nothing happens, just a scuff mark). On the front panel you will find one button, it's being used for backup of the data.
With the hard drive you will get various software, the most important will be Retrospect Express HD, which backups and restores the data. Through the applications there is also a possiblity to protect the drive by setting a password, manage efficiency or change the OneTouch button function. This hard drive is perfect for storing large amount of videos and music, because it ts external it is very easy to share your files with friends.
One small thing that I didn't like is that I have to turn it off after starting a computer, otherwise computer will try to boot the system from it. I think it is something with my comp, as I tried...

I owned a 20D before this and so my view is relative to that camera. The 5D feels very much like the 20D and 30D in that it is pretty much the same size and operationally very similar except for not having any kind of built-in flash.
Pro users argue... more
