ZYWIEC is a beer that is best drunk and not pronounced.

Our travels brought us to a stopover in Zabrze, a grim, grey and gritty industrial city in Poland.
There wasn't a lot to do so we had a walk round the shopping district where we found that there wasn't a lot to buy, either. Still, there WAS beer and since the whole point of this trip was to sample as many beers - and as much - as possible, there was no significant difficulty.

**UPDATE**

I have just been informed by my good lady that the point of this trip was NOT to drink the continent dry. Even though, as she ever so gently pointed out, "You had a feckin' good try! Nearly ruined it for everyone ya big, greedy, selfish numptie"....THWAK!!!!

What a gal!

Where was I?
Oh aye, the beer.

--------
THE POUR
--------

In the glass, it was pale yellow-gold - light amber in colour with very good clarity. Fresh looking with lots of carbonation and a good frothy white head which dissipated fairly quickly.
On the nose, it's mildly metallic with a BIG herbal/floral hop aroma. A bit yeasty and 'skunky' too. The aromas remind me of freshly cut grass. This one had a powerful, earthy aroma. But would the taste match up?

---------
THE TASTE
---------

Up front, it's crisp and clean with a little hop spiciness, which doesn't last very long. There is a fresh cut hay flavour from the hops - as well as a graininess … both trying to dominate each other. Slightly metallic and salty, there's a mild crispness with a light-to-medium body. The malt flavours are mostly dry and grainy with only a little sweetness which does not linger. I noted toasted malts and toasted grain flavours which gave it a clean palate. It's lively and refreshing with good carbonation and a subtle floral finish. Very clean.

-----------
THE VERDICT
-----------

At 5.8% ABV, it's OK, comparable to the usual mass produced lager. For me, it needs a lot more body to be an impressive beer. I enjoyed it and it's a nice enough beer, I'd even drink another, but I wouldn't push a McEwan's 80 bob aside to get at one.
The price for a 500ml bottle was attractive - 1.5 zloty ($0.35). In Edinburgh, that wouldn't buy you the froth on a pint.

A mystery prize goes to the first comment that can explain the title.

Thanks for reading,

Na zdrowie

Review of Zywiec Lager by bassinbill42

My dad introde me to a Polish friend of his in Tujunga, Calif. USA. He told me about "Z-WIECK" found at a Russian mini market on Foothill Blvd. They were out of it there but I found it later at Whole foods in Glendale. What a treat! Best served cold in a chilled mug to savor the aroma of the head after being poured. Outstanding flavor and finish. A beer worth looking for and sharing with your beer buddies. The Polish man who told me about Zywiec, said many a German beer drinker would make the drive into Poland to enjoy a few pints. Give it a try and you will thank me! Bill Prieto

Still can't pronounce it
Review of Zywiec Lager by simonscott36

Advantages: Refreshing, good flavour
Disadvantages: Moderately expensive, unpronounceable

I first came across this beer in a Polish club (in Bristol, not an actual club in Poland unfortunately), where it was significantly cheaper than anywhere else I've ever had it, so I got a favourable first impression of this beer (in case anyone reading this is familiar with Bristol, it's on St Pauls Rd). In general it seems to cost about £3 for a half litre bottle, so not the cheapest of beers but definitely one of the better ones. Served cold (as ...
...if you can't see the symbol the beer won't be as nice as it could be) this is a very refreshing drink, far better than most of the rubbish served in English pubs as it actually has some taste. I really am quite terrible at describing tastes, so I'm going to skip fairly lightly over this bit to avoid sounding too stupid. Sorry, I do know that this is the most important bit of a beer, but I'd end up saying "good" far too often. As a general rule if ... Read review

Peachy Tea Goodness
Review of Lipton Ice Tea by  Champ666

Advantages: Totally Refreshing Drink
Disadvantages: No Burpage

...This is the only drink other than Maddogs 20/20 and Buckfast that I have ever had an adverse reaction too from people observing my drinking habits. It seems that the Great British Public is not yet ready for such continental treats. I first experienced its rejuvenating effects in Poland many moons ago. The only other thing that excited me more than its arrival to our shores was Paprika crisps, Zubrovka Vodka, Zywiec Lager, and the Polish UK North bus drivers. All of these have added a certain bit of Eastern European life to our shores which is generally a good thing, even though Ice Tea is definitely not Polish......... Lipton Ice Tea comes in three varieties Lemon which is pants, Mango which is great and for the purposes of this review the awesomely wonderful Peach. It has a strong peachy aroma which for someone who likes peaches is... Read review
