ADVFN.com is yet another internet finance site, but of all the sites I have used for tracking my portfolio and plotting my next move, it's the one that gives me the data most efficiently.
As with all websites of this type, ADVFN is made up of a number of elements, some premium, most free. I have heard that their premium services, such as Level 2 prices and premium bulletin boards, are extremely useful - subscribers swear they couldn't do without them these days. However, I only have experience of the free areas, but for someone like me who likes to keep up to speed while not needing split-second timing for day trading and the like, ADVFN provides excellent and reliable data for nothing.
My favourite part of the site is the "trades" section. This provides real time information, which updates itself every 2-3 minutes, of each and every trade in whichever stock you are studying. Can be extremely handy when timing trades, particularly if you're not willing to afford the premium services. The quotes page is also real-time, and gives a lot of company information, access to news articles etc.
Other areas of the site aren't so strong. The free bulletin boards are a haven of rampers and de-rampers, and though there is information to be found, it's badly laid out and seldom reveals anything you can't find out elsewhere. The sense of community is poor and often bad-tempered.
So overall, it's a great site for data, and it seems that the premium areas may well be worth exploring for the bold.
