Advantages: It introduced me to Mr Bungle!!!!!! Lots of info Disadvantages: A few mistakes and dodgy links/reviews
AMG, All Music Guide and www.allmusic.com. Many (Counting one, two, many, more) a name is thrown at this excellent website. Think of it like a musical encyclopaedia, a music critic and a friend whose always recommending new bands to try all rolled into one. I first stumbled onto the hallowed hypertext transfer protocol of allmusic when I was mooching my way around Everclears official website. www.everclearonline.com thought that allmusic’s ... ...otherwords they themselves couldn’t be bothered to do one) that they linked to allmusic’s instead. Despite the slightly dodgy motives it’s still quite a compliment!

First up is the homepage, I must admit I’ve only ever looked at this once and that was in the course of writing this op. Normally I’m just diving straight in but for you, dear consumer, I do this. The front page contains ...

Advantages: Utterly comprehensive and brilliantly simple Disadvantages: Not much - although I suppose if you don't like music...
Allmusic.com is THE internet music database, for all styles of music. The good people at the site have taken on the alarmingly huge task of organising every piece of musical output ever recorded. I only discovered this site recently, and I am absolutely astonished at the sheer volume of information. The All Music people put out books, like the All Music Guide to Jazz, which are superb hardcopies of the info on the website.
The Layout and Navigation
... ...get to in a moment :-) ) the navigation is very simple indeed. The homepage is uncluttered - just the search bar, some new CD releases, and a 'featured style' of the day. The search bar is self-explanatory - there's the text bit, and underneath are radio buttons where you select whether you are searching for an artist, album, song, style or record label. The results are spot on - it never fails to understand who you're looking for. Everything on ...

Advantages: Very comprehensive Disadvantages: Discographies refer primarily to US releases
This site, the All Music Guide, is a brilliant source of detailed information on just about any band you care to mention. If they're sufficiently well-known to have a discography, then you'll find them here. From the front page, simply type in the name of the band or artist concerned, and you'll be rewarded with a very detailed file on the artist. This starts with summary information such as Years Active, Genres, Styles, Instruments and labels recorded ... ...associates. Then comes a detailed discography, each album linked to a separate page reviewing the album and detailing each track. This also shows other artists' albums on which they've made guest appearances, and lists of other artists who've covered their songs. Finally there's the chance to give your verdict on the artist: whether they're exciting or relaxing, dark & pessimistic or light & cheerful, etc. It even suggests other similar artists you ...

The site claims to be the largest entertainment information database for music, video’s, DVD’s and video games. And they certainly have a large database to chose from. The site is nothing special and you think that it’s claims to be one of the best sites would have reflected in a good homepage. But I am afraid the site’s nothing special, although it is fast and you much rather have a fast site…..well I would. The search ... ...label, songs, style and labels. The results are good and you’ll find what you’re looking for pretty quickly. However, what I did find a bit odd was that when you were conducting your search you were required to answer a few short questions, multiple choice on the artist you had put in the search baron. The CD aspect of the site was good, and the prices varied according to what you purchased. Although it had a large database and should ...

Advantages: Easy to use and comprehensive Disadvantages: None
Have you ever had one of those moments where you really need to find out some sort of musical fact, but you've got no way of doing it? Say you need to know who wrote a certain song originally, or who the four member of a band was. You could spend an age searching the Net for that kind of information. Luckily, you don't have to anymore – you can just turn to the AMG All Music Guide at www.allmusic.com!
The All Music Guide is part of a network ... ...aim is to make impressively large catalogues of all media available. Also in this group are the All Movie Guide, the All Game Guide, and the All Classical Guide. Each one is a site in it's own right, but each has a similar look and feel to it, and AMG have done this in an attempt to make it easy to use the sites.
The All Music Guide is just as it sounds – it's a comprehensive guide to modern music, with every band you could possibly thing ...
