Altavista.com is my favourite search engine in the world. Compared to yahoo.com, which is full of pictures and lots of links, Altavista has a very simple layout. It has doesn’t have many images and is mostly just links to the categories for your search. This helps the page load quicker.

It is very easy to search for what you are looking for. If you know what sort of category it is going to be in then just scroll down, enter that category, and search for it that way. You can also use the big box at the top, which is the easiest and quickest way to find what you are looking for.

I find the quickest way to get to AltaVista is by typing in www.av.com it save a bit of time and gives your fingers a rest. The main search box is yellow at the top of your screen and it gives you some options, which you can use.

FAMILY FILTER – This filters out all pornographic and offensive web pages, so if you have a child I recommend that you switch it on and password it.

LANGUAGE – You can change the language into over 20 different languages across the world including, Chinese, Latvian, Romanian, Russian and even English!!

CUSTOMIZE SETTINGS – Here you can customize how your search results are displayed and other information like: how many results to a page, web page size, last modified and many more. Once you have changed the settings to your liking, an example is given to you showing what your results page would look like with all your changes made, which I actually quite like.

I think hat the search facility on AltaVista is absolutely brilliant, to show how good it is I searched for my website and it came up which I was very pleased about. A lot of other website about Southampton football club came up as well. I don’t even remember putting my page on AltaVista.

Overall, I think that AltaVista is the best search engine on the web especially if you want to avoid subjects which are too broad and is brilliant for specific searches liker when I searched for my website it came up as number five. If you take advantage of the advanced search facilities then you should find this very useful.

Overall, I would recommend AltaVista to everyone who needs to search for stuff quickly and I’m sure that’s where they will find the best results. :O)
