I came across another.com last year, after seeing their name on a number of billboard ads. Their selling point was that you could select your own URLs to go with you e-mail address. As I was getting a bit disenchanted with my previous account with a different provider I decided to join up. The site provides the standard the standard facilities that you'd expect from a free e-mail provider. You can send and receive emails without any great problems. Another.com is great in that it's free. The other special feature of it is the shear number of alias's and email addresses you can have. The choice is massive, so personalising your email is easy. Actually getting the different email addresses is a dull and tedious process, but mercifully short. I first used this site because a friend had told me about it. One advantage that I have found is that I can use one of my email addresses as a junk account - for emails sent to me by companies that I have subscribed to for some reason.
