The site is basically just a list of places and services recommended by members and accessible by area. This is how it all works.
The first thing you will need to do is sign in as a member. This is relatively painless. You will be asked for your name, e-mail address, phone number (optional) and your location. I say location because you will be asked for the first 3 digits of your town or village name and then given a list of towns and villages beginning with those letters and asked to click on the correct one. You will then see a street map of your area and will have to click on the location of your house on that map. An unusual way of getting your address but there it is!
You will then receive an e-mail to the address which you specified, giving you a password in the form of numbers which you are then asked to use to log in and change to a password of your own choice as soon as possible for security reasons.
There is a facility for you to see a demonstration of the site before you decide to join. This gives some fictitious names and addresses of recommendations given by fictitious members, but you can see what the site requires.
There is a facility to search the database of the site either in a range from your own address or from a target location submitted by you. This means that you could have a look at all the places recommended around somewhere that you intended to visit. The radius around the place you select is available for 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 miles or 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 kilometres if you prefer.
The setting up of the recommendations is divided into the following pages:-
NOMINATE
This divides the current categories for nominations into the following groups.
Food and Drink – includes pubs, cafes, restaurants etc. Shopping – is split into types of shop e.g. food, shoes, DIY, etc. Home and Garden – includes electricians, plumbers, garden centres etc. Time Out – includes hotels, places to visit, cinemas etc. Health and Beauty – includes gyms, salons, hairdressers etc. Wedding – includes cars, photographers, florists, venues etc.
All you have to do is select the relevant category, type in the name, address and postcode and telephone number of the business. If you don’t have all this information a name and town will suffice, but it may take longer for it to be verified. Then type a short sentence or two about the business, such as ‘This shop stocks a good range of DIY tools for the beginner and enthusiast at reasonable prices’
You then rate the quality, service and value of the business individually on a scale of one to five.
GAME
There is currently a safe cracker game on the site where you have to find 5 items hidden inside five of a total of sixteen safes. You can buy a safe key for 6 credits, current value £6, and you can buy a clue for 4 credits, current value £4.
If you can find the items you only win £50 so I don’t think I shall be bothering with this one!
HELP
This is a list of information about how the site works and what it was set up to achieve etc.
FEEDBACK
This is where you can suggest a new category or comment on the site and the service. You can report errors with the site and contact the site manager either by e-mail or by letter.
MY DETAILS
This shows the number of recommendations submitted and the number verified as it takes between 24 and 48 hours to verify recommendations before they are credited to the members’ accounts. It also shows credits from referrals, you get one credit for each new member you refer, and your total credits to date.
You also have the option to change your password and/or your user profile from this page.
MY CREDITS
This is the page where you can request the payment for your credits.
Currently one credit is worth one pound but I can’t see that lasting very long as I have just put 25 recommendations on in about an hour, which makes it quite an hourly rate!
You can request a cheque when you have 30 credits making £30 or you can request a payment to charity when you have 20 credits making £20.
It reminds you that you can earn more credits by referring friends and it also says that they are looking into an exchange scheme from their credits to ipoints or beanz.
As I said earlier I’m not sure how long this favourable rate of exchange on credits will last so I say make the most of it while it does!
I have ordered my first £30 cheque today (23.04.01), after only five days as a member of this site!
I have now received my cheque for £30 (26.04.01) together with a letter explaing that at present they are only going to make one £30 payment per member but hope to offer exchange incentives in the near future.
CURRENT INFORMATION ON ASRECBY AS AT 17.05.01
Below is the notice which now appears on the site, so it looks as though things are not good for them at the moment but hopefully it will be OK eventually - I still have that safe to crack!!!
"Please note that as recommended by is undergoing some serious restructuring at the administrative level, which is likely to take some weeks to complete. As a result of this work, verification of recommendations has been delayed and temporarily suspended, as has entry of any further recommendations."
I'll try and remember to update again when anything further happens ....
Advantages: Earn lots of money fast, new Disadvantages: Will they pay?
We all like making money right? We are here writing opinions to make a few quid right? Of course! How about writing less for more? What if I told you that I have earned over £30 for about an hours work? Well, read on.
I was sent an invitation by a dooyoo user to join this new site. It’s called ‘As Recommended By’. It’s not an opinion site. You don’t have to sit there and write and write and write!
It’s very new, ... ...Just like dooyoo and ciao paid well at first until they got a regular amount of members. I guess this one will work the same so I recommend getting in now while the rewards are great.
OK, stop blabbing and give us the gist, I hear you say.
Right then.
The site is a directory of businesses throughout England, Wales and Scotland (sorry, it doesn’t mention Ireland), except they don’t have any businesses listed yet.
That’s where ...

Advantages: good idea, but limited in it's longevity Disadvantages: appears to have been undertaken by one person who has no knowledge of what he was letting himself in for
Thirty Quid’s worth of easy money, just for making a few recommendations of businesses in your area. What a great idea!
Well, a month ago you could hardly switch on a site like Ciao or Dooyoo and fail to see people posting glowing ops about www.asrecby.co.uk. This was THE site that you had to join NOW. You could make loads of money just for recommending local businesses – from shops, to pubs, hotels to plumbers. Get paid £1 for each ... ...Those of you that know all about Asrecby, do not need me to tell you the ‘ins and outs’ – those of you that are still ‘in the dark’ – it’s too late. I’m afraid, it looks like another bright newcomer has ‘bitten off more than it can chew’.
After a couple of weeks waiting to see if and/or when my recent recommendations (or nominations as the site calls them) were going to be accepted, I thought ...

Advantages: £1 for a review that takes all of two minutes! Disadvantages: Will it last?
Well, call me a cynic if you like. But if you want to earn a few quid from this site, the little voice inside tells me you should hurry.
Of which more, later.
First, what is it?
As Recommended By is a site which is basically a gazetteer of businesses throughout the UK. It is almost Yellow Pages. You register, you enter your location, and within a certain radius of that location, you can search for eating places, estate agents, pet shops, visitor ... ...places are only listed if they have been recommended by another registered user. Which is where you come in.
As a registered user, you can nominate a business in your area for inclusion. To do this, all you have to do is identify the business by name, address and telephone number. Then write a mere handful of words in its support.
And I do mean a handful. This is not a writers’ site. Here we are talking: “This is an attractive restaurant ...

Advantages: Great way to earn cash online, find ot which businesses near you have been recommended by others Disadvantages: Still quite new so not many companies listed yet.
I have recently received a rather nasty shock in the form of a very, very large bill from my garage to get my car through it's MOT. It would have been cheaper to scrap the bloody thing and buy a new one! I'm therefore on the lookout for a get rich quick scheme, and while this site will not make you particularly rich, and you won't make money particularly quickly, there is certainly potential to make a few pennies, and a bit quicker than you'll make ... ...by...) is like an online Thompson local directory. Once you are a member, you can log on a get details of businesses local to you that have been recommended by other members. The default setting is businesses within 30 miles of your home postcode, but you can select anything from 10km up to 50km, or 10 to 30 miles. The recommendations make asrecby better than Yellow Pages or Thompson as you don't have to make a wild guess as to which business to ...

Advantages: a fast £30 - if they pay up Disadvantages: mixed reports about payment - some say extremely quick others being told to wait
WOW! This is an impressive little site! Asrecby, is a site aimed at providing consumers with all the information they need about local businesses and services - information provided by those who are best qualified to give it i.e. you and me. The idea is that the people who are best qualified to recommend, or discourage the use of a particular business are those who have had personal experience of using it. For your time and effort in writing a review ... ...you are rewarded handsomely - at the moment £1 per recommendation which will come in very handy I'm sure. The way you submit reviews to the site is easy. You need to register first of course which is relatively painless, just a few address details etc. which they assure us will not be passed on to third parties. Once this is done, you select your home region from a map and are then ready to start writing reviews! That Simple! You can then choose ...
