Advantages: Not a lot of memory taken up, ever increasing numbers of content providers Disadvantages: Still a few patchy areas
I have been using avantgo for four months now, and can't believe how useful it has been. I now get my share portfolio info, news on the companies concerned, events planning, sports news, film reviews, the daily paper, and a whole host of other things sent to my palm via synchronisation from my desktop computer. A simple registration process and a setup session, and then I was ready to go with AvantGo. There are an ever increasing number of sites ... ...hasn't truly reached the Palm, this web clippings service offers a similar sort of experience.
The great thing is that you can setup this application so that it will only download a certain amount of services, and occupy a certain amount of the memory of your Palm, so there is no danger of either running out of room. Because of the fact that the content is widely text only, it means that you can easily upload a lot of content to your palm without ...

Advantages: The Internet in your handheld for FREE! Disadvantages: none
...year I have been using AvantGo.com to download all this and more to my handheld; it is easy to set up, and it is FREE!
The idea is simple. Log on to avantgo.com and register. Select the UK site for UK specific content and then choose which channels you want to be downloaded to your Palm OS handheld. Each channel has a description, and lets you know the maximum memory it will use on your Palm. When you HotSync your Palm, the content is downloaded ... ...it offline wherever you are.
Your chosen channels can be deselected at any time from the handheld or online, and new channels can be added from the AvantGo website.

Advantages: Your news quickly, customisable, space-conscious, portable content Disadvantages: Can't read fancier web sites, but who cares...
I've been using AvantGo for a few weeks now, and boy I'm sold! This is almost worth owning a Palm/Handspring device for on its own!
What AvantGo does is let you subscribe to certain specially-formatted 'channels'. Channels could be the equivalents of existing web sites re-done for PDA viewing, or specifically made for the PDA.
Up-to-date content is collected and saved onto your PDA when you synch as frequently or infrequently as you request (customisable ... ...old pages, so using the least space possible.
You can then read the info at your leisure, in the bath, in bed, on the train...
But what's so fantastic is the range of stuff you can get... Okay, there's news from Guardian, media Guardian, Ananova, ZDNet, VNUnet.
I've also saved down maps to help me locate hotels in other towns (pretty good), a daily trivia quiz, Internet news in French, plus the days' TV and radio listings for my region.
Cool. ...

Ever been in a dull meeting or lesson? Wish you had newspaper or some jokes to pass the time with? Well thats one use I have found for avantgo! It is a very impressive wide ranging service that can be entirely customisable. Almost every sport, area of entertainmet and news are coverd. I currently subscribe to a daily jokes channel, the ... ...range of articles in a distilled version of the actual paper. myDIGI guide contains all the information about the days television programs for more channels than I new existed. This service is well thought through with all options customisable so only the channels relavent to you are downloaded onto your PDA.
The information is impressivly compact with the channels I subscribe to never exceeding 200k. This is very useful when running on a 2mb m100. ...
