Alcoholics of the world unite! I have found the most perfect email address for all of us who like that most wonderful of God's creations...the pint of beer. Hop along to beer.com and snag yourself an email address which gives you an email address in the form of...yourname@beer.com. What could be more perfect!!
But BEFORE you go rushing off there to check it out I have a friendly warning. This site uses flash and the opening screen is a very load party going on complete with pumping technorock soundtrack. If you are at work right now, or anything else then you might want to skip on by this site or risk getting the boss on your back. Anyway, get past this, and its actually one of the better site intros I have come across, and you are into the main site which is dedicated to all things beer, nd generally bloke-ish. There are jokes here, stories, beer related news and umm beer.com girls which you can vote for - like I said, its a very bloke orientated site. There is actually some funny stuff here...but onto the email service.
Its actually rather good, if a little basic. Its another of those services which you'll use for fun rather than as a primary email account. There used to be a message forwarding service whereby the emails sent to you could be automatically forwarded to your other primary account but this has long been scrapped. Instead, you have the option of being informed when an email arrives here, which is nowhere near as convenient but of course means you have to visit the site which is what they want. The service is quite basic but has a few nice touches. You can send and receive as usual, orgaise into foldes, store addresses etc. but there are a couple of 'additional' features which the most basic sites do not offer. You can add some preset graphic headers to you emails, and backgrounds and change the font size and colour, as well as that of the background. And umm...thats the extent of the additional features, but its a start! The headers are quite nice but there are only 4 to choose from but the backgrounds could do with a little work.
Other than that, its all very basic. Access times and page reloads are fast which is a good thing. You do get a calendar and a 'to do' list as well which is displayed on the options screen which could be quite useful were I to ever use it. You also get a filter to remove unwanted spam, but I rarely get any in this account anyway so i do not use it either. you are allocated 5MB of storage space, which is about average for these freebies, and it doesn't actually say there are any limits on the size of file you can send or receive, but I suppose there is one, there usually is.
Overall, its not a bad email service and there are far worse out there. I like the novelty of the name more than anything else, but to be fair I rarely use it for anything other than the occasional joke. Check it out if it sounds appealing - its a basic web based email service, can't say any more than that.
