Advantages Gives you something to do
Disadvantages Looks like a cheap site
Bored.com is a website that hosts a huge load of links to other sites on the net. The point of bored.com is to make you not bored by providing you with these links in order to give you something to do! Pretty simple idea that works quite well and the site is quite a well known site on the internet now. (why can’t I come up with these kind of ideas!?) The site actually states ‘For when you have nothing better to do’ so it seems like a great website for when your bored in the office, but is it?The front page lists the newest sites that it has added to its database. Each site listing has a description next to it so that you know what your in for. A click on the link and your into that site, no messing around or pop up windows to play with. Down the left hand side of the page you have other options to explore like free bored.com e-mail (is it me or does everyone seem to be offering free e-mail at the moment!?) a Bored.com desk player which is a downloadable application which I haven’t had the pleasure of downloading as yet and you can also refer a friend.
Under all this is a list of categories. Ah ha, now were getting into it. These categories include such titles as Music, Games, Romance, Humour etc in which you will find corresponding websites to amuse yourself. So, that’s the general outline of the site, theres a lot to be explored if your really really bored, but it just doesn’t cut it for me. The design of the site is ok, but its hardly anything special. They are not any graphics to slow you down, just plain text so it seems. Navigation is ok too, all the links are clearly visible next to the description of the site.
Apart from all this, the site has a bored.com radio player. Clicking on this will open up a new window and a page will slowly load up inside this with controls to the bored.com radio player. There are various tastes of music to choose from so it should suit all tastes. I couldn’t use the player for some reason, my computer wouldn’t let me, so I can’t comment on the sound quality or actual quality of the radio unfortunately, but I’m sure its just like all these other internet radio stations, pretty unimpressive! The bored.com radio is not bored.com’s own application though, its run by another site so im not sure who is actually in control of the music.Overall, this is a pretty ok site. It’s a pretty simple idea and if your sitting in the office bored stiffless, taking a look at some of the sites bored.com has listed might amuse you for half an hour, its ot a site I will be visiting in the near future though.
