Well, here’s a departure for me – an opinion about online shopping (unpaid at that!). I don’t do a great deal of shopping online due to having one of those Solo debit cards which aren’t accepted by many places! Most of my experience of such shopping is with Tesco which can prove problematical.

However, I have a more positive experience(s) to report on! Namely during my Christmas shopping at the end of last year. I needed to buy a couple of CDs for friends and family and being on a very tight budget needed to find somewhere as cheap as possible.

Shopping around offline in high street shops only threw up the usual type of prices for CDs - £12 plus which was difficult for me so I decided to check out some of the online shops I’d heard about. I decided to go to CD-Wow. What can I say but – WOW! The CDs I wanted to buy were priced at only £8.99 INCLUDING delivery! I thought this may be too good to be true – would they take forever to arrive or be dodgy in some other way? I decided to have a browse around the site before actually putting in an order.

Their website is very simple to use and uncomplicated. If you are looking for chart or latest CDs (or DVDS) then this site is very good but if, like me, you often want more obscure artists or back catalogue CDs then they are very limited in their catalogue of CDs. I was also a little disappointed to find that they do not do ANY videos. Having said that, they do have a fairly wide stock and the prices are pretty unbeatable considering delivery is free/included. They also had a section for sale/bargain basement items which started at £6.99 (again, including delivery).

I found the CDs I was looking for as gifts on the site so I decided to register and place an order to see how they worked. Registration was quick and simple just requiring the usual, obvious details (name, address, email, payment method etc) and then I was ready to shop! They even have a “Wishlist” facility where you can put items you find that you may want to purchase at a later date to save you having to search for them again.

I duly place my order, paid online by Debit card and then waited. I placed my order about two weeks before Christmas so I considered some delay would not be unreasonable BUT I had both CDs (sent separately) within about 4 working days of placing my order. Both arrived safely, well packaged and in good condition and each one also included a 50p discount voucher to be used on future orders. I was very pleased to say the least!

They accept several methods of payment which is handy for non-Credit Cards holders like myself – debit cards, online payment schemes and you can even send a cheque if you prefer.

I even had reason to contact their customer service at some point (I forget why now!) and was pleased and surprised to receive a helpful reply in only a few hours – that certainly makes a change!

This all sounds rather ingratiatingly positive, which is unusual for me (and for a shopping website) but I truly have no complaints so far other than the aforementioned limited catalogue of items available. They also do games for those among you after such items but I’m not a PC game player myself so I cannot really comment on those.

So, to sum up, this site is easy to use, looks good and, so far in my experience, offers a very good and very competitively priced service. Yes, I will most certainly use them again!
