I swear that the US government is monitoring MSN chat. It seems violently keen to make sure you only say things acceptable to the White House. For instance, the word 'nazi' is banned. You're also not allowed to use any word that might have the remotest drug connection (admittedly 'bong' is dubious, but hey, what sounds do bells make?), or swear. Let me get this straight. I'm not toilet-mouthed, druggie National Socialist. I'm a regular person, who ... ...I gave up on the Internet years ago, the level of chat in rooms seems to either be 40-year-old divorcees having trouble typing, or illiterate teens who have very little to say except 'If U wAnnA ChAt 2 a HoT gUrl hIt 911'. As a result, my forays into the world of net chat tend to consist of me winding up the yanks and pointing out the flaws in their country.
Ok, I can see why some words are censored. Teen rooms especially, because do we want 12-year-olds ...

MSN have now revised their chat programmes so that they are no longer available to people in the UK(and various other countries). The reason for this is supposedly to protect children from abuse. However I doubt this reason as the service is still available in the USA and other countries - the only change is that a credit card is now required to gain access.
The removal of the UK service occured at the same time as the US service became a subscription ... ...and additional hotmail space(the famous internet email system). This services costs about $10 per month. Even before the chat was cancelled for UK users I found that the system was very poor and tended to crash a lot. I also noted that the system seemed more popular with those under the age of 18 so maybe there are fewer members now.
I cannot give this a good review as the service has essentially been withdrawn. I recommend that people try Yahoo ...
