"Great site but watch out for the weirdos!!"

I was first introduced to Ciao by and decided to sign up.

I'm a student & always trying new products (EG the tesco value products and cheaper alternatives to my usual favourites), and was interested in both earning a bit of extra money, while also expressing my good/bad experiences/opinions and helping others make desicisions/warn people off!

Ciao is european based but has websites in the uk, usa, france, spain, germany, the netherlands, italy & sweden.

The website allows its users to read free reviews on products they may be interested in buying, and the ability for users to also review products they own or have experienced and earn a small cash reward for each one.

The site also provides price comparison tools aswell as click through links to purchase the product.

The website is simple enough, with tabs at the very top consisting of;
- web
- images
- videos
- shopping
- news
- maps
- more
- msn
- hotmail

Under these tabs there's the Ciao logo and a search bar. On the left hand side of the webpage is different product categories, from books to travel. The center of the page shows the site's latest videos and reviews, and a little box where you can see pictures of various other members. If you click on there picture it will take you to there Ciao page, with there info and reviews which you can read and rate if you're intrerested in a particular product they've reviewed.

Signing up to Ciao is simple, quick and easy and there's no need to give bank info until you've earnt a minimum of £5, which took me a week or so.

The layout is nice and neat, aswell as clear, informative, well organised, great catchy, bright colours and it's somewhat professional looking.

Once you have a Ciao account, you'll have a 'my ciao'. This will show in the top right corner. Clicking on it will lead you to your profile which will show:

Your icon picture
Uploading one is simple but optional

Your username
Your personal details/about me
These are optional but i have one, which includes my name, age and a brief sentence about myself.

The number of points you've earnt and the amount of money you have on your account which you've earnt from getting ratings/reads on your reviews.

Account settings
This consists of the ability to change your bank details or email account, change your password, delete your icon picture/upload a new one, request a payment, accept newsletters or delete your account.

Your circle of trust (people you've added as friends)

Your guestbook, which people who visit your Ciao profile can write in.

Ciao is the kind of website that doesn't sound amazing but once you're signed up you'll soon be addicted! Seeing the money you earn through reviews grow is a huge incentive to write the best reviews you can to gain a good review rating.

Review ratings are as follows:
- Off topic (lowest rating)
- Not helpful
- Somewhat helpful
- Helpful
- Very Helpful
- Exceptional (highest rating).

Bad reviews are normally the kind that either have very little content relating to the product, or extremely long reviews that are off topic with bad punctuation and paragraphs etc, or reviews that have clearly bein copied from someone else.

Good reviews are the kind that keep you reading right til the end and can relate to the author. The author will include all details of the product including the price and their own views and experiences. The great thing is they're not trying to sell the product so the review will be 100% honest!

Ciao is overall a good oppurtunity for people to express themselves/write, and make friends. There's also a downside to it; people sometimes rate your reviews badly because you rate theirs badly. This is called a 'revenge rating', which the member may get suspended from Ciao for if reported as it's not allowed.

There's also grammar fanatatics who leave comments insulting your spelling, aswell as those that become somewhat stalkerish and leave odd/vague comments aswell as accusations, which i've had a bit of but if you report the member that should hopefully stop all harrasement!

If you'd like to make a bit of extra cash, say maybe £10 a week IF you put the effort in, this website will be great for you :) & join up now! You'll be getting 20p for each review until the end of april! 5 reviews = £1!

Pointing out mistakes is fine, however some people here ARE fanatical. This is a review site that pays pennies. And while I have nothing against those who do this I find that it is NOT worth the money or the time to write long detailed amazing reviews that some members write. If you are doing this purely as a hobby and not caring about monetary compensation thats fine, otherwise theres WAY more money to be made for such quality. Her reviews are solid, she doesn't need to write novels. What you'd put under a product on Amazon should be sufficient. I have had people be VERY nice to me on this site (save for a few god damn grumps which have a tendency to rate members lower, even when others don't) so I'm sorry you're experiencing any negativity. This review is not that bad, by the way. I think some people are getting carried away a bit and forgetting that... for gods sake you're reviewing dish soap and toys not writing a god damn novel. In all honesty no one will immerse themselves in your gripping review of a soap.

I'm not liking all the churn people are dishing out on here at the mo though. Rachael.
