Charity websites. There are many sites out there which allow you to donate to charity for free. The idea is that you visit the website, click on the donation button and one of the sites sponsors will donate a fixed amount for you, e.g. with the nspcc site it is 4p and with the hunger site a cup of rice.

You can only make one donation per day. There is also often the opportunity to buy on-line through the site using one of the sites sponsors, generally the charity gets a commission on the sale.

These are some of my favourite charity sites:

www.computersforcharities.co.uk - help charities with their IT.
www.thehungersite.com - help fight hunger in the world.
www.nspcc.org.uk - help cruelty to children.
www.feedyourworld.com - donate to the country of your choice.
www.causeaneffect.org - helping the victims of the recent Gujarat earthquake.
www.thechildsurvivalsite.com - donate vitamin A.

All these sites are very similar in the style of layout and therefore easy to navigate. As well as offering the above, they also raise awareness for their cause. You can find out more information about the needs of people in need and also how your donations help.

Quite often you can also join there mailing lists. Through these you are sent the latest news about the charity and, in some cases, their sponsor.

On the whole, I think these websites are a great idea as the charities get extra funding and the sponsors can raise their brand awareness.

Personally, I try to work these links into my web surfing routine because 'at the end of the day' it's free to make a donation and it does make a difference to someone less fortunate than myself.

So next time your surfing and you get bored, why not check out some of these sites and maybe help to save a life or, at least, improve one.
