I had always avoided Consumer Reviews as I thought it was a site purely for the real computer experts of which I am definitely not one!
With the reduction in earnings at both Ciao and Dooyoo I was on the lookout for any other opportunities and, after reading an excellent opinion by Brianlfc, I decided to take a look at this site.
The first thing that I noticed was how clearly the site was laid out. The home page gives ... ...you’re already a member, and a list of the categories in which you can write. There’s no ‘clutter’ on the page as there is with Ciao and Dooyoo, offering ‘ringtones for your mobile’ or ‘free text messages’, and I like the simplicity and clarity of the whole thing.
Come on, Susan, get on with telling us what the site is all about! OK I will!

With the reduction in earnings at both Ciao and Dooyoo I was on the lookout for any other opportunities and, after reading an excellent opinion by Brianlfc, I decided to take a look at this site.
The first thing that I noticed was how clearly the site was laid out. The home page gives you the link to either join or log in if you’re already a member, and a list of the categories in which you can write. There’s no ‘clutter’ on the page as there is with Ciao and Dooyoo, offering ‘ringtones for your mobile’ or ‘free text messages’, and I like the simplicity and clarity of the whole thing.
Come on, Susan, get on with telling us what the site is all about! OK I will!
Joining the site is easy enough. The mandatory fields on the application form are user name, password (twice of course), address (to send your money to!), age, sex, and e-mail address. There are also two optional fields for you to add the details of your own homepage and/or your image.
You get £1 added to your account to start you off as a thank you for joining, which brings me neatly on to the payment structure.
Consumer Reviews currently (04.11.01) pay 10p for every opinion written and, if the opinion in exceptionally good and is highlighted as a ‘star review’, that amount is increased to £1. You then get a further 5p every time a member reads one of your opinions. I’ll come back to the issue of reads later. The minimum amount that they will payout is £20, which is high enough to dissuade the churners but not too high to put off the serious writers.
The money is all added to your account in real time, so it’s nice to be able to see how you’re getting on at any time.
The subjects in which opinions are to be written are as follows:
Computer Hardware Computer Software Computer Games Computer Vendors Computer Magazines Internet Service Providers
So, when I first came to look at this site, I decided to join as I could write reviews about games together with one or two other opinions here and there.
As promised earlier in this opinion I now come back to the subject of reads, which is the only down side to this site.
When an opinion is read there is no facility for seeing who has actually read it. There is a list of ratings on each opinion so you can tell how well (or otherwise) your opinion has been received.
There is a facility to leave a comment on opinions and the writer does get an e-mail notification of these and, obviously, the author’s name appears alongside the comment.
I have been a member since 26th October, and have done a fair bit of reading and commenting so that I can get myself known on the site, as well as taking an interest in other peoples’ views.
I have posted four opinions, which have received only fourteen reads between them. In fact one of my opinions hasn’t yet been read at all.
The top ten most recent opinions are accessible via a link on the homepage, and a ‘highly recommended’ product, so I often have a look at those. There are also one or two names that I recognise on the site so I have read some of their opinions too, but it does seem very difficult to get yourself known here.
The home page also has a link to the Member of the Month, who receives £5 for the honour and a list of five members of the Hall of Fame, of which the aforementioned Brianlfc is currently one!
I shall certainly continue to persevere with Consumer Reviews as I find it an easy site to use and the reviews are both interesting and educational to me being a bit of a novice where computers are concerned!
Now I have started working as a Merchandiser restocking computer games on behalf of Electronics Boutique it is interesting to read reviews about the games so that I have at least some idea of what they do, just in case a customer asks me!
Advantages: New, Well organised Disadvantages: Specialised in Computer related products and services
I had the pleasure of joining Consumer Reviews just last night after reading an opinion on this site.
I must say I was really quite impressed.
Many of the features are very similar to both Ciao and Dooyoo.
I will try and provide as much information, as possible, to benefit any of you who do not already know of this site, or those of you that may wish to join.

o0o INTRODUCTION o0o
Well, the bit on the side I am talking about is called www.consumer-reviews.co.uk.
o0o THE SITE o0o
Consumer reviews is yet another consumer opinion site paying you for your opinions and reviews. The major difference with this one though is you are paid nearly twice as much as ciao for reads and money for actually writing the opinion.
It is a rather plain, white looking site and frequently surpasses to the odd shut-down. ... ...on your modem speed and basically it is like a grave yard - no community, no Circle of Trust, nothing! It is easy to navigate though.
Another major difference to ciao, is the fact that they are a computer based site - I mean they only review computers and computer/Internet related services.
The site has also just become affiliated with www.dabs.com - so members of Dabs can use this site to find information on the product they want to buy from dabs.

Advantages: see opinion Disadvantages: see opinion
Well yesterday saw my discovery of this new opinions site and as always the buzz of excitement which comes with a new money making opportunity! I hot tailed it straight over there and signed up and I already feel knowledgeable enough to write an opinion on them. ~~~ What Is It? ~~~~ Well in an extremely similar vein to Ciao and DooYoo, Consumer reviews is another site where we can get paid for our opinions. Over there they are actually called reviews, ... ...product it is more of a review. Consumer reviews is different thought because it’s a specialized site about computers. It’s a pretty new site which was launched on 3rd March and they have already signed up with Dabs.com as their "independent consumer reviews site". ~~~ Categories ~~~ As I mentioned this site is entirely about computer reviews so the categories are a lot narrower than you will find here. However when you look closely you ...

Advantages: Easy enough to use. Pay for writes as well as all member/reads Disadvantages: Harder to get read. No community feel at all. Home page slow to load.
May 2004 Update - for some months, this site has been displaying a 'changing servers - sorry for the inconvenience' notice. Now it seems that even the link to www.consumer-reviews.co.uk is hi-jacked by a link to a shopping robot. Draw your own conclusions.
'WHAT IS IT?
Consumer Reviews is another E-opinions site run along similar lines as CIAO and DOOYOO, but with one major difference.
The opinions have to be connected with computing in some way, ... ...For example, their range of Internet retail sites stretches way beyond those that sell computer kit. (Whether this is what CR intended is another matter, but that’s their own fault for introducing an “Others” category). I have just placed a scaled-down version of my Maplin Electronics review there so I know this is OK (AND it got a “Star” – more of that later). Interestingly, you can place more than one opinion in the 'Others' category, which is ...
