I went on Cool Diamond's website following a recommendation of one of my female colleagues, she had actually chosen her ring from their show room in London and had been delighted with the whole experience.

Due to time constrains I was not able to travel to London and decided (reluctantly) to go and buy my ring online.

First I choose a shortlist of Jewellers selling diamond rings online. Some of the websites like Blue Nile or 365 diamonds looked interesting but I decided against them as the first did not have a UK address on their website and the latter only had a post office box as an address. I have bought enough online to know that if something goes wrong you want a company in the UK with a proper postal address you can visit.

It was interesting to note that most of the websites seem to sell exactly the same ring designs, Cool Diamonds however seemed to have a fuller range with a choice of designer or classical rings.

I then decided that I wanted to be able to view the diamond certificate online as following advise from my colleague who seemed to have visited quite a few jewellers there was a very big difference in the quality of the diamond between diamonds certified by different laboratories, her advise was only to buy a diamond with a GIA or HRD diamond certificate. This left me with two contenders Quality diamonds and Cool Diamonds. I eliminated quality diamonds because bizarrely their cut grade was very different then the cut grade written on the GIA certificate i.e. they would offer a diamond with cut grade described by themselves as excellent but the GIA certificate they would supply you had a cut grade of good.

While Cool Diamonds had scanned copies of the diamond certificates on their website it was not that obvious until i found then as a link under the price stating click here to view alternative diamonds.

So my choice was made on buying my ring from Cool Diamond, but I still had one hurdle to cross as I did not know the finger size of my partner I did not know what size ring to order. A quick email to Cool Diamonds sorted this out they suggested an average ring size and offered to resize it for free once i had presented the ring and knew the correct size.

I received the ring in time, presented it to my girlfriend who said yes! send the ring back for resizing to my partners finger size which was done free of charge as promised.

Both myself and my partner were very impressed by the service.
