When Internet started, first thing people liked to do was searching the web. In a survey in one of the publications in New York Times, it was said that on the Internet, people like to do more of searching than anything else. “They have to. other wise how are you going to find things.”
Anyone who uses the Internet should be really familiar with searches. Most common of all is yahoo, google, hot bot. Before explaining about copernic, let me give a brief of what a search engine.
Search Engine. ------------------- A search engine is a Web site that links to a database of many Internet files. These can be Web sites, homepages, gophers, newsgroups, etc. The sites allow you to use their engine (or software program) to search their database. So what you do is go to one of these sites, type your topic in a little text field, then the engine searches and shows you what it's found. In reality, there is no single online search tool that has an index to the entire contents of the Internet. Each search engine uses different search techniques and various software tools (called spiders) to build indexes of the Internet. When doing search through then, they also yield different "views" of the Web and the Internet as a whole.
Types of Search Engines -------------------------------- 1. Search engines – excite, hotbot 2. Web Directories – yahoo, webcrawlers 3. Meta search engines – c4.com, megaspider
COPERNIC2000PLUS
I was working for a Internet Communication Management company and our reps were directed to use a software called Copernic. Initially I thought what is this copernic. It’s software, which had to be downloaded from the www.copernic.com site. (We had the full version)
What copernic actually does is search a list of search engine based on the category.
E.g. Categories Web – yahoo, google…and many more Mp3 – soundhub.com, mp3.com, and many more
You can download copernic from the site and it is not time bound with no expiry date but obviously its not a full version so there are only 4 categories on which you can search on.
The concept of the categories is to fine-tune each search to various sites in a much more specific way. With the PLUS version, new categories are added such as: Buy Books, Buy Hardware, Buy Software, Health, Cars, Computer Security, Encyclopedias, Games, File Search, Humor, Images, Kids, Life, Movies, MP3, Multimedia, Music, Newspapers, Newswire, Recipes, Sciences, Software Download, Sports News, Tech News, Tech Reviews, Top News, Travel, and Yellow Pages.
Within each category are numerous websites that are related specifically to the information that you're interested in locating. For example, if you were interested in getting information regarding "Opps I did it again” you would click on the mp3 category, enter the word Opps I did it again, the click Search Now. By doing the same search using the more well known search engines, you can expect to get numerous irrelevant replies. You can first click Advanced Search to fine-tune the responses even further. You have a feature where you can do the search on three different categories
1.Search for all words. 2. Search for any words 3.Search for exact phrase.
Believe me, the exact phrase is absolutely fantastic, “oops I did it again “ mp3 category gave me exactly that. I was Zapped.
I have been absolutely amazed as to the number of QUALITY results Copernic 2000 Plus provided. There's no need to spend time and energy getting to know all the different search engines and it simply chooses the ones that best suit your needs.Just key in a single request. No need to bother with the specific rules of each search engine. You don't ever have to master them because Copernic2000 Plus does it for you! You'll find what you need every time, quickly and effortlessly. What's more, you'll make interesting discoveries! It may also automatically remove dead links. You can consult the results any time you like, even when offline, and you can even request an update on an existing search. No more keying in the same search over and over again! No need to constantly check that you have the latest version of the software.
Upgrade ------------ When a new upgrade is available, an automatic upgrade button will appear on your screen. One click of that button and Copernic takes care of the rest! Once you've upgraded to either Copernic Plus or Pro you can check for the updates and also check to see if more Search Engines have been added. In the last 30 days I've received 1 update and a choice of numerous new Categories to add.
Advantages: Multi-engine search capability Disadvantages: None so far
Well not really but I did need to get your attention.
I have been using Copernic for just over three years and have bitten the bullet and upgraded to the Plus (paid) version.
As I use it for Business research this has turned out to be a great investment, and for probably the same reasons as everyone else. But, never mind repetition, here are my reasons.
Appearance.
Not a pretty start page but "functional" with a very good windows look and feel ... ...Category list - showing all of the site types that you have chosen, and allowing for new sites to be added. There is also a toggle on/off facility for history and data excerpts.
As with several other engines you can ask Copernic questions - not quite quick enough for phone a friend on Millionaire - I don't think, but quick. The answers are sorted into order and each one gives a direct link to the relevant site. Great for my sons homework as well ...

I have a saw in my garage, a limb chipper in my shed, and Copernic on my computer. What do these items have in common? They are all what I consider luxury power tools: powerful tools that I don't use very often, but am glad that I have them when I need them. I'll review my saw and limb chipper another time. Here, I want to discuss the features of the Copernic software program so that you can determine if is a luxury power tool that you want to add ... ...Copernic is a software program that you download and install on your computer. The easiest way to explain Copernic is to say that it is a Web search engine. That is, you use Copernic in essentially the same way you use your favorite web search engine. However, before you tune out this review thinking "I already have a search engine I like", you should realize that Copernic has many features that make it a very powerful search tool. The most important ...

Advantages: Fast, simple, effective and FREE! Disadvantages: None to speak of
You know it's only when you REALLY want to find something on the Internet that you realise just how many search engines there are out there. Some are excellent, some are adequate, while others have fallen so far behind the times so much they're downright useless. But how do you know? If you're looking for something in particular then the best way of going about it is to sit and scan through a whole lot of the available search engines in the hope ... ...to point you in the right direction. But that's rather time consuming isn't it?
Don't you just wish there was some service that would select the best search engines around, let you input a single search string, automatically scan through them all and then provide you with a list of hits in order of likelihood of meeting your criteria? What's more, imagine if such a service was FREE!
Sounds far fetched right?
WRONG!!!
Copernic is the PC's answer ...

Now here’s a smart idea.
Everyone who has ever been on the internet (and even those who haven’t) knows of the huge amount of search engines out there, Lycos, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Each of the search engines has its good points and its bad points. So how about bringing all the major ones together in programme? Well that’s exactly what the boys – and girls – did at Copernic Technologies. The programme in question is Copernic ... ...allows you to search as per a normal search engine with options such as ‘Search For An Exact Phrase’, ‘Search For Any Word’, ‘Search For All Words’, and ‘Answer My Question’. There are a huge number of individual search engines that Copernic brings together and (with a deep breath) here are a selection that are available with Copernic 2000 Basic:
AltaVista WebCrawler
AOL.com search Yahoo

Advantages: searches loads of top engines/indexes simultaneously Disadvantages: can be slow to run depending on your connection
I always used to hate using search engines... The thing I was looking for was impossible to define in keywords, they all have their own individual quirks (such as using Boolean logic or not), and they're either totally US-biased (even so-called UK versions of MSN and Altavista) or British and a bit crap. And it took so looooong... I knew they'd all find different things, and I wished there was some way I could search them all simultaneously and get ... ...been someone listening, as thanks to an internet mag a few months ago I discovered Copernic. As I use the internet a lot for research this was a dream come true - put in your keywords, and tell it whether you want 100,200 or 300 results. if you are using a modem and want 300 this is a good moment to go and put the kettle on, but within a few minutes you will have results from all the 'big ones', except for some reason Google in the unregistered version.
