'Sick of iTunes? Looking for a faster, lighter and free alternative iPod, iPad, iPhone manager? CopyTrans Manager is the perfect iTunes alternative for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Add music, apps & videos to iPod, edit tags and artworks, organize iPhone playlists, play songs & videos with the integrated music player. It has never been this simple!'
If, like me, you hate using itunes for your Ipod then this is possibly the best free alternative which is so simple to use and install.
CopyTrans Manager is a programme which allows you to easily add songs to your Ipod, as well as arrange and view albums and album art, artists, genres etc...
It's compatible with all versions of Ipod including Touch and iPhone.
You computer operating System must be higher than/ including Windows 7 (Excel; Vista etc..)
It downloads in minutes and is available to use immediately. Simply click 'Download' and it will ask you where to save the file. Proceed to 'Save' and it begins its download.
When you first log on, it will be a few moment and then a picture of an Ipod Touch will pop up and tell you that: 'it is now safe to plug in your Ipod'. Once you have connected the device, it takes another few moments for the device to be recognised and then all your music will fill the library screen.
At the top end of the screen there are 3 boxes; each containing either the Artist; genres or Albums in Alphabetical order. You can scroll down and pick the album and all the songs in that album appear underneath. You can edit the information for the songs, such as title, composers, artists and albums by right clicking the song and selecting 'Properties'. CopyTrans should automatically transfer the song or group the songs into the Album you fill in. Just like Windows Media Player, you can also rate all your songs.
You can also change the Album Artwork by right clicking on the 'Album Artwork' square next to the Album list and selecting 'Change'. I am not aware of being able to go online to select the Album Artwork. I think you have to browse online and then save the Artwork you want to your computer and then upload from there. It doesn't automatically find the artwork for your Albums either.
Uploading music to the device can be done in two ways.
1. There's a button with a little ipod picture and a + sign next to it. Click this and you can search your computer for the song or album you wish to add. 2. Copy and Drag - I've always preferred this option. If you open up the page with all your music on and shrink it down so that it's side to side with the CopyTrans window, you can simply drag and drop the music files onto the programme.
Transferring music from computer to Ipod is so easy. Simply click the 'update' button and within minutes it adds all the new songs or any modifications you have made to your device.
To the left there are all your categories:
Music Video Ring tones Podcasts Audio Books Voice Memos TV shows etc...
As well as
Most Played Recently Added Recently Played etc...
Because everything is on one screen it's so easy to use; fast; efficient and reliable. It does take a little playing around with though to make sure songs are grouped into the same album. When I transferred a couple to my device they didn't group together and came up as individual songs (but this is a similar problem with iTunes).
You can play the songs from the programme as well but you need to have installed the software for it.
Overall, there's no going back to iTunes for me. The only thing I guess you cannot do with this is browsing the iTunes store and uploading directly to the library. It's not something I miss.
CopyTrans to a variety of other programmes but CopyTrans is the only Free option. There is:
CopyTrans TuneSwift: This moves your iTunes library from one computer to another.
ILibs - Creates lots of iTunes Libraries
iCloner - Backs up your entire Ipod library
iDoctor - Diagnoses and fixes malfunctions; missing artwork/ files etc...
