With Yahoo auctions shutting up shop, I thought I better take a look around and see what else I could find, and I came across www.CQout.com which I thought was worth a mention.

First thing I noticed is that CQout charges commission and even charges £1 for registration. Not at all like Yahoo which was all free, but then again, you don’t need to be a Harvard Business School graduate to figure out that you don’t have a business if you don’t charge for your services !!!!! I wonder how many of investors’ millions was poured down the drain by Yahoo proving that obvious point?…. but that is a different story.

Back to CQout… So OK it costs to join and it charges commission, but it does not charge a listing fee like eBay and a lot of other auctions. EBays listing fees can add up to quite a lot if you list a dozen items and half of them don’t sell, I have been stung that way many times.

I liked the concept that users are properly checked out at registration time. I registered with a credit card but I did notice that they had a manual “non-credit card” registration which I haven’t seen anywhere else. I really liked this feature because I get fed up with some idiots who mess around on auction sites and make life hell for everyone.

There was around 24000 items listed which was not bad, not as big as Yahoo but OK, I am into movie posters and collectibles and there was a huge section on that. The CD collection was very large too, at what seemed pretty good prices.

The site was laid out clearly and simply with navigation filters that follow you on every page so you can move around really fast without having to go back and forth to beginning every time.

Overall I was well impressed, and I am going to start listing a lot of my stuff on there, I will report again and let you know how I get on.

It has been a couple of years(!!) since you said you would update your review. Well -- I might be wrong -- presuming you are Effy at CQout who is selling way over 50% of all equipment items I can presume that you are very happy. From a buyers perspective you, however, are seen as a quasi-monopolist which certainly isn't positive.

I think your review is a little out of date, there are over 100,000 items on CQout last time I checked.

A bit more info would be good, but it sounds like it's worth checking out. If you update this op please let me know and I will re-read. Cheers. Ang.
