Whilst wandering around our local branch of Tesco’s the other week I noticed a display of ‘discount items’ not to be confused with the Tesco Value or Tesco Market Value range.
The discount range all have a small square flash on them in yellow with the words ‘discount brands at Tesco’ in red and a £ sign being cut with a pair of scissors. I suppose it is yet another ploy to help us save money or at least make us think that we are saving money – or am I being a bit sceptical?
The discount items were mainly in a range called Daisy which I hadn’t heard of before but I decided to try the washing up liquid.
I purchased the concentrated washing up liquid with antibacterial action in the 500ml size which cost me 67p. Had I chosen the standard Daisy washing up liquid in the same 500ml size it would have cost me just 57p.
The idea is that this washing up liquid will cut through grease and dirt and leave the dishes sparkling clean. I wasn’t convinced as I have tried the budget washing up liquids in the past only to be disappointed but I thought it was worth a try for the price.
The washing up liquid is bright blue and doesn’t really smell of anything much.
To be honest I have found it adequate for my needs. I don’t use oil or fat for cooking these days so my pots don’t tend to be greasy at all so that helps. I just put a generous squirt of the liquid into a bowl and run hot water into it. I get a reasonable amount of lather but not as much as I would with the equivalent amount of a high price liquid such as Fairy.
I find that all my washing up is bright and clean and the glassware sparkles. As I say I do need to use more of this liquid than I would with such as Fairy but it is still reasonable value for me.
The antibacterial action is achieved by using the liquid neat on a cloth after washing up to get rid of any bacteria lurking there. To be honest I just wash my cloth in hot water after washing up and that seems to do for me!
The plastic bottle is recyclable and the liquid has not been tested on animals so there are a couple more points in its favour!
All in all I find it a reasonable budget priced product which does for me but if I had greasy washing up to I would go for a higher priced branded liquid.
