Full review
De Montford University is set in the heart of Britain with four sites set in four counties. It is a university that is one of the biggest in Britain, with around 30,000 students based at four UK centres. It is known for its Consultancy, Research and Training programmes. De Montford has many programmes including Further Education courses, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Professional programmes. These four centres and ten campuses retain their own distinctive characters and specialities. Modern telecommunications facilities, including IT networking and video conferencing, ensure that wherever you choose to work or study. There is a chance for flexible study within a wide range of subjects, as well as holding International conferences and symposia too. The University is proud of its new multi-million pound Science and Engineering Research Centre plus the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development.

I have recently completed a modular degree at this University based at the Bedford Campus and would recommend it. Sport Studies, Education including Teacher Training or Dance and/or Drama are all high profile courses taught at Bedford. The university provides a multitude of courses (at other campus’) in areas including Agriculture, Business, Computing and Design, Engineering, as well as Health, Humanities, Law, the Arts and the Sciences.

The campus at Bedford is split into two sites, which are about two miles apart. It also has a community theatre, swimming pool, dance plus movement studios, two libraries, gymnasium and what all students like to hear two, yes two Student Union bars. De Montfort Students’ Union provides good if at times a little noisy entertainment with food and drink at an affordable price. There is a wide range of entertainment and social activities on offer to meet student demands. Polhill Campus boasts an infamous Wednesday night Sports Disco and many huge events. (An event not to be missed!) Lansdowne Campus offers a more intimate alternative. Entertainment includes hypnotists, comedy acts, and formal balls at both Christmas and Summer. The bars stock all the latest lines of alcohol and soft drinks. The two Union shops provide stationary, food and Official University Clothing at very reasonable prices. (Even the students can afford it!)

Participation in the many sports clubs and societies in an active part of life on the Bedford camp. Every Wednesdays through the Christmas and Easter term, over 30 clubs, at the Bedford site. The Athletics Union helps to organise inter-mural sports with the famous rugby 7's, where courses compete against each other. Bedford Town offers many opportunities to participate in sports, such as Robinson Pool for the competitive swimming and Oasis Centre for the more sedate swim. The Athletics Stadium is of international quality and Priory Marina offers a wide range of water sports including wind surfing and water skiing. Cyclists benefit from the high number of cycle routes that dissect the county. Supporting Bedford Rugby Club – ‘the Blues’ is often a favourite pastime for the less energetic.

The lectures are usually around two-three hour long and not over crowded except for core modules. Most of the tutors and lecturers are approachable and will assist with any problems. Extensions are granted for assignments and the special needs unit is available through the student support agency. De Montfort University offers exchange programmes to South Africa, Malaysia, Holland, Germany, France, Sweden and Hong Kong under strict academic quality control The Bedford Campus has its own on-site doctor's surgery, nurse and physiotherapist.

During the first year of you course, you can live in the halls of residence, but then you must move out. The accommodation in Bedford is plentiful and reasonably prices. If you are looking for a University, this one is small but the natives are friendly!

There are also many societies and clubs to join. Making friends is very easy, even for the shiest of student. As a student at De Montfort University, Bedford you are never alone. Now what have you to loose, you may even learn something along the way!
