DMU is one of the large Universitys, with something like 18,000 students in Leicester. This is both good and bad. It means they can provide some really good facilities, such as the libaray (a new students union... if it ever gets built) some good and up to date IT facilities and other such wonders. However from my experience the, management is pants. The Computing Science faculty may have its share of excellent and not so excellent lectures and tutors, but it would help if they practiced what they preached a little more often. We are told how business are organised and run and how computer systems should be built and run, how networks can provide all the information we need... This kind of information is available from some but not from others, there is no coherant policy for the faculty. Trying to get hold of information as a student and be a nightmare and hours of wasted time trying to find out something simple all because of poor communication between the faculty and students. I'm not saying it is like this all the time, because there are some people who work really hard to help you, but all to often you find yourself hitting a brick wall. Once these problems have been addressed I'm sure the quailty of teaching and work will improve along with the reputation of the university.
Other things... cheap place to live, loads of housing - some really nice palces if you look for long enough. Friendly lot - (well most people there) Narabough road - you want it... its got it.
