I decided to come to DeMontfort University a year ago, and I have not regretted it. It has GREAT facilities a Law library, an ordinary library, internet connections and computer rooms everywhere, applemac ibooks for those that use them- great IT in general.

Accomodation.... which is what most people worry about. Don't!!! The variety is great and what you get for your money isn't too bad! You can rent either university owned or private accomodation. The best of the university is New Wharf Halls of Residence, as you have view of the castle gardens and the river soar (swans and rowing team included). Unfortunately very few of the Halls come with car parking facilities but dont let that deter you as you soon find places to park. On the private sector, Victoria Halls is very good value for money. Like New Wharf it has a communal kitchen and sitting area, but it has got a car park for students (note this involves a semesterly raffle for spaces) and sky televsion which does include Sky sports and the movie channels. Some Halls have caution charges which are for returnable providing there are no damages to your accomodation but there may be a surplus deposit to cover your usage of gas and electricity and your phone bill (some Halls provide phone lines and internet facilities). But the cost of accomodation starts from £69.00 up to £85.00. The higher range does include ensuite bathrooms and double beds. The prices do tend to inclde cleaners who look after the communal areas- but you are responsible for your own mess!! Since house hunting for the next year I am holding the opinion that living in aprivately rented house is better as the dreadful 3-5 am firealarms won't be around to bother me!!! and there aree some bargains to be had- i have a 5 bedroom near the university at £37.50 a wk but we do have to pay for our own gas and electricity.

Nightlife in Leicester...
Zanzibar, Level 1(student union), Leicester University's student union, PoNaNa's, The Charlotte, Creations, Mosh and Life are the main student attractions. Bangra, RnB, Grunge, Rock, Funk, House- everything can be found in leicester. With most clubs offering free to ladies and all before certain times. You can go out in leicester and get quite recked on about £20 or less.

If you are strapped for cash, I would suggest you get to university slightly earlier if you intend to work, as job availibility in leicester is scarce. The student union is the best place to start for a position as scurity or as bar staff- think of the 3rd years who have left and the 2nd years who want to study??!! alternatively there is an agency at the back of the new union, where they provide work and you work if and when you need it.

The union has two cash point machines (which are also scarce apart from in the center of town), A Harry Ramsdens, Whistle Stop (local groceries), The Graduate ( another bar), Level 1( nightclub and bar). This is also the base of the sports associations should you wish to join and this is where the Freashes Fair is held in Level 1.

There Library has a communal area where you can chat. It provides printers and photocopying. It has an extensive selection of DVDs and videos which you can take out on long term or short loan, which does include extemely recent titles. The library is open until Midnight during the week during the term and all other times can be located at the main entrance- all the staff are ever so friendly.

In the first couple of weeks being at university it can come as being a bit of a shock. You can get disheartened by many deciding to leave so early into your course- but dont. Sometimes if you are unhappy, see if you can do an alternative course. The staff at DeMontfort are not like many universties wher on your academic development is their only priority. DeMontfort has a good personal tutor programme who can approach about anything, there is also a counselling system and subject tutors also provide surgery hours in which you can go to discuss issues you may be having. Even if you having difficulties, the staff are so accomodating and understanding, and often try to help you to find a solution that suits you.

I would recommend though that if you are going to university to try and be considerate of others when at home (halls) and at uni. No one likes a slob and it ruins the atmosphee if others have to keep tidying up after you- they will eventually get tired of it. Also when you come back uni, in the second semester start looking for acommodation, there are bargains to be had. There is a housing office which can also help. DeMontfort University have so many societies and clubs plus two gyms. John Sandfort Sports Hall is the main one.

After a year i would definately recommend De Montfort University as i know many others who have gone to the elite universities yes the top two- and have hated it. A BIG thumbs up I think!!!

**********NEW BITS*********

'Well you see times have changed, and relationships are not like the old days'- Destiny's Child, Writing's on the Wall Albulm (the first bit of it)

It has been 3 months into my second year. Is it hard ? Yes! I have essays coming out of my ears! But is it FUN? YES! My goodness Im having so much fun not living in halls. I go and see friends AND get a good nights sleep.

Since I last wrote this review, I have moved into a 5 bedroom house with 3 other girls and Duncan. Another Emma, Hanna and Laura are our housemates. In the picture attached is Laura hiding together with Hanna. Hanna is an absolute crazy girl who went so over board decorating our house for our Halloween party- we're having the Christmas Party !!!! If you want to see more pictures- check out www.queenhanna.com- click on gallaries and then photos and then the halloween selection. Im in there too. I think Im either 5th or 7th row down and 4th Coloumb across. Im there smiling like an idiot without much makeup with Duncan whos dressed up as the bad Lord from the film the Wickerman.

Well as you know I study Law so if you would like to find out what thats like to study, Im sorry but you'll have to check out my other review! Called LLB Law.

Hmm searching for a house is quite difficult but the university (once you are a registered student) give you access to their housing database. its on a website called;
www.mle.dmu.ac.uk

And thats where I found my bargain house- at only £37.50, not including gas or electiricity! Its a bargain. A bit of a walk from the uni (10mins) means that Im getting fit all for 1 price!
So start you house hunt at the end of the first term to bag yourself a deal- and remember, cold sore blistering feet, can sometimes proove to be worth it

DMU were nominated this year for having one of the countries BEST student radio stations as well as other nominations- I wonder whether we won anything?

Keep posted for more updates!!!!!
