I am a third-year LLB law student at DMU Leicester, and although you may say I should be striving with my courseworks, I have just done a load of work and think I deserve a break!

I can only give you an overview of the uni outside my course, and that I shall provide first. The location is pretty good, nice and close to the centre of town for frequent shops and dining occasions. The local people are also pretty friendly (unlike some towns such as Cambridge which experience a rift between the full-time community and the students).

The night life is pretty good, and the Union has recently been given a new building with a pretty smart night club, so give it a visit. There is also your usual range of shops and cafeterias directly on campus so you will never be short of anything (apart from money!).

There are literally hundreds of clubs and societies to join, and they are all really cheap and provide exellent experiences, whatever your tastes.

Moving on to the courses, I have heard (and the reputation of the uni is often framed in this light) that many of them don't really cut it. However, I wouldn't believe that until you have actually talked to the staff and especially the students. Rumours have a habit of originating from other universities, such as local rivals and their students!!!

As far as the law department is concerned it is top class. Yes, there are one or two students who don't make the effort, but that's the same anywhere if you look around. The standard of teaching is excellent, and if you put in the work and effort you will get so very much from this course, I promise. My life has completely changed since I began my studies here, for the better in all ways. I am now well on the way to becoming a barrister (fingers crossed) and I don't listen one minute to those who say that I am at a disadvantage because I come from a so called new-university. I believe the proof is in the pudding, not the recipe.
