If you are thinking of planning your own holiday, you could do worse than to check out flight bargains at deckchair.com. You input the dates and destination and they give you a list of choices in price order, cheapest first. If you look at the airlines' websites directly, you could be paying around £100 more than through deckchair.com.
For example, a return flight to New York in December 2000 for a week's duration, can cost as little as £185 if u go through deckchair. Not bad, if u compare the prices with teletext.
If in doubt, give it a try. They can also make reservations in hotels for you, you can hire cars, etc..
Give it a try and explore it to its full potential.
If you are feeling adventurous and want to create your own package holiday, you can do it all before you leave the house. Its really easy.
