I have been for a few weeks now been meaning to order a new PC seeing as I am moving house and this one I am using now no longer belongs to me so the other day I was going around the net to see what I could find and how much I would be looking at for a basic internet ready PC. After checking out many sites such as Tiny,Comet,PC World I just sat back and thought to many choices which one to choose and to be quite honest I did not have a clue all offering ... ...it really hard to decide what I actually wanted. As I was sitting there listening to the radio an advert came on for Dell.co.uk so obviously sensing this was a sign from a higher plain lol I logged on to the site. Dell.co.uk is solely dedicated to PC's and accessories but best of all I found was that you could choose a basic PC base (which was black and I have always wanted a black PC) and then build onto it what you really wanted such as printers, modems, scanners, webcams, memory ...

Advantages: You're dealing direct with the manufacturers of a successful and established brand Disadvantages: Component shortages
In desperate need of a better PC, but with no spare money, I set about searching for an online retailer who could do me a great PC at a decent price and also offer me credit. After several days of ploughing through websites and comparing deals, I settled on dell.com.
The web site
The Dell site is fast loading, frequently updated and easy to navigate. Unlike most sites I visited, ordering a computer to your exact spec is an absolute doddle.
First, ... ...or business models. Then choose the PC type you want. You can buy a complete off the shelf work-station, or configure your own. To do this, select the type you want, and click on 'configure and buy'.
You are then taken to a page where you choose your basic configurations such as memory, monitor size, graphics card, speakers, modem, DVD, CD etc. etc. and you are also offered tons of optional extras if you want them. In each category you have a choice ...

Advantages: Good quality, reliable machines. Good range. Disadvantages: Pay for the name. Lousy technical support and repairs.
I bought my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5000e) a year ago. It is a wonderful computer...
At the time of purchase, customer service was excellent. I was looking for a laptop to use as my primary machine so wanted a large screen and full sized keys but was happy to accept a slightly heavier model. Dell listened to my requirements and made recommendations based on them.
For the first 11 months, I had no problems whatsoever. There was a minor blip when the ... ...and then, exceeding my expectations, sent a second one when they had receipt of the original. I was impressed.
At the end of December, it all went wrong. There was a fault with the screen. The computer was still within the standard one-year collect and repair guarantee period, and I had purchased an upgrade guarantee promising three-year next day onsite service so I wasn't overly concerned. Everything started promisingly. I rang up the helpline, ...

Advantages: good brand name, quick and easy Disadvantages: none
My first view of the dell site impressed me, it is a very simple but effective web site that is nice to browse. you select the product that you are interested in , in my case it was a desktop system. I then selected the specification i was interested in, changed a few options on the system such as video ram, hard drive size to suit my needs, this was done, and the price of my system instantly changed at the bottom of the page. the next day i recieved ...

Advantages: Excellent quality components and customer service Disadvantages: Not always the cheapest
I have been buying Dell computers for nearly 8 years know, initially as purchases for work where we now have a network of 20 Dell computers
I have stuck with them, as the build quality, pricing and customer service they offer is always been very good. Having bought so many computers over the years has also given me confidence in the quality – only one of them has ever had a problem – a hard disk that failed within 6 months of purchase ... ...now tend to get an upgrade up to their 3-year guarantee – after which time the computer is probably out of date any way
I used to order by telephone but this year had used their excellent website to order – If you are ordering several it is worth haggling a little bit as they will sometimes throw in some upgrade free of charge (I’ve managed to get free network cards, modems and had the delivery charge reduced by ordering 2-4 computers ...
