I had a quote for a kitchen on 20th November 08, nice, the lady came to my house and did the CAD to show me what the kitchen would look like, but I felt the installation costs were a bit steep so I shelved it for a couple of weeks, reasoning that the cost of the actual kitchen would be unlikely to change, and I would get a couple of quotes from some independant fitters for comparison.
I was very pleased to find that, immediately after christmas, they advertised half price kitchens and half price installation! Based on this offer, I would save £1300 on fitting alone, never mind the half price kitchen - much better than the price the independants were likely to be able to offer.
So I hot-footed down to my local store to have them re-jig my quote and waited excitedly for it to come through the door. Imagine my shock when comparing the new and old quotes that the cost of installation has roughly DOUBLED since my quote 6 weeks ago (how convenient) and the kitchen price hasn't changed, because they consistently through the year advertise their kitchens at double the price, and you think they are doing you a favour when they tell you they are offereing it at half price.
The original quote in November included a 15% discount on the actual kitchen.
So my quote now, with appliances and supposedly a half-price deal on the kitchen and installation, is £177.75 MORE expensive than the original, when the onl deal was 15% off the kitchen!!!!
DO NOT fall into this trap, I was very lucky to have a previous quote for comparison, others will not be and will think that the current offer is a good deal. It is nothing more than creative advertising and I will be persuing it with trading standards.
