Anyone writing an op on Ciao or Dooyoo has to be pretty brave as most readers are familiar with both sites, and its a question of what can I do different or add for readers? I'm not brave, I'm stupid, and as I am not going to be around now for a while (lots more things to write ops on when I get back), I can field the abuse and save my tears until I get back.

WHAT IS DOOYOO?
In the unlikely event that anyone reading this doesn't know, Dooyoo is a very similar site to Ciao in varying shades of GREEN and WHITE. You can register to write opinions on a wide myriad of topics from credit cards and insurance to domestic violence, UK taxation and Anarchy on British Streets.

DOOYOO GET PAID? (HOW CORNY IS THIS?)
Yep, you get paid in Dooyoo Miles and each 100 miles is equivalent to 10p. You get 100 Dooyoo Miles for each op that you write, and 50 miles for each read, irrespective of whether it is rated, although Not Useful reads get no points (similar to Ciao I believe). (Talk about teaching granny to suck eggs.....)Payment can be obtained at 50,000 Dooyoo Miles (£50) if the desire is cash, or less if you require vouchers (I believe £20 or 20,000 miles) that can be used in :
  • Bottoms Up
  • Blackstar.co.uk
  • HMV.co.uk
  • Orange
  • The Link
  • Boots
  • PC World
  • Amazon.co.uk
  • Threshers
  • Vodaphone

or for 10,000 miles you can get your very own Dooyoo T-Shirt, I can just seen this going down well on the Costas or a Saturday night out in town.In addition to the miles awarded for writing and reads, there is a Crown system, which if an op is identified as good enough, the writer gets a Crown and an additional 1,000 Dooyoo Miles added to their account. Since the revamp there is now the facility for readers to nominate ops for crowns, but there have been a few gripes on the site that since this came into force, less Crowns are being allocated. I guess if you have a few friends on the site, this could be potentially open to abuse.

Unlike Ciao who indicate in your account where each sum of money has come from, on dooyoo, you just see your overall balance in miles. Balances for reads are updated in real time, although money for writes are added up to 72 hours after the op has been written.

Payment for Cash is by cheque, and it is usually issued a few days after receipt, so yes, you do get paid, quickly.

YOU CANNOT GET PAID ON DOOYOO IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE

REFERRALS
For referring a friend who becomes an active member of the site, you receive 100 miles for each of their first ten ops. RATINGS
Similar to Ciao, ratings are
  • Very useful
  • Useful
  • Somewhat Useful
  • Not Useful

And you can also leave comments if you desire, unlike Ciao, you only see the overall rating of the op, and have to check in different fields to determine the number of times the op has been read, or a different place again to see the number of comments. If someone visits your profile, they can immediately see the number of reads members/non-members you have received, how many ops you have written and how many comments you have left, this profile for its owner also allows you to run back over every single op you have read and rated if you want to review your comments.

Your profile also contains the amount of ratings ou have received on each of the above levels, so sadly if there is a revenge rater about, it is automatically available for everyone to see.

CHURNERS
Yep, they have them on Dooyoo to, in fact more I would say, although dodgy ops do seem to be removed very quickly, and it does seem that abuse is not well tolerated by the operators. Minimum op on Dooyoo is 75 words, on Ciao it is 120 words. The high limit on obtaining payment on Dooyoo does seem to deter churners over a period of time as it takes quite some effort to reach this amount.

LATEST OPS
Like Ciao, the first op is shown on the front page, and then after this, you actually have to look in specific categories to find the latest writes. There have been a number of occasions where I have submitted an op and by the time I have got to the front page have had to search for it as it has disappeared.

Latest writes on all categories seem to range from between 80 - 100 ops, and go back as far as 6 days, unlike Ciao which simply shows the last 20 ops in the subject area.

SUGGESTING NEW TOPICS
You can suggest new topics on Dooyoo simply by giving an indication of the topic and where the subject area will lie, I have only tried this once and the topic was listed within 3 days, on Ciao it took about 3 weeks, by which time I had forgotten all about it, and on Ciao you have to write the op first.

NAVIGATION & BEHAVIOUR
Both sites are fairly easy to navigate, and both run at about the same speed, although as most of you will be aware, the Ciao site has been having a few technical problems of late, nothing on Dooyoo as yet.

THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION
WHICH ONE IS BETTER?
Ciao, no Dooyoo, no Ciao, well um....
In reality there is little to chose between them, I would say that the community spirit on Ciao is better, yet it has a large proportion of the same members, most ops get read more here, and the difference in payment is more than made up for by the PF.

Dooyoo lacks that little something that I haven't quite worked out yet, and running on two sites is time consuming and a bit of a pain, yet Dooyoo offers subject areas called "XXXXX in general" for when you can't find something, and after submission to site owners allocate it a topic heading retrospectively, saving you the hassle of having to get many topics listed.

Dooyoo also has 'Speakers Corner', with a myriad of debating topics which attract an awful lot of reads, discussion and heated debate, and a strong community spirit in its own right which I'm afraid draws me time and time again, although I have noted over the last few weeks that Ciao has started adding similar type topics under the heading Member Advice on........., long this may continue.

WHAT ELSE DOES IT OFFER?
Dooyoo Hall of Fame, similar to CMW, it also lists new members and there first op for today and the last two days, whereas Ciao lists the last 10 new members first ops.

It offers SMS, Competitions, banners to put on your web-sites for referrals, which if they sign up you get paid for, and, oh dear I nearly forgot,

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS
This is similar to CoT on Ciao, but many many members just completely fail to recognise the ethos of this, and add other members on without ever reading their ops, and then never come back to read any, this is very frustrating (maybe we should just be glad for it, but it all seems so pointless, unless they think it is going to get them more reads, I don't know, but it is something which seems to happen far more there than it does here.

SUMMARY
A run of the mill opinion really, which I hope may have told you something about the site that you didn't know already (doubt it), I think there is room on the internet for both sites, and hope that Ciao's technical problems don't push too many people over to the other side permanently. Long Live Ciao.
