I recently received an e-mail from DVD Plus informing me that they were back open for business again. About three or so months ago they had to shut down, obviously owned by a new company they have re-opened. It has been such a long time since I have been on the website that I can’t tell if it has been updated or improved. Anyway it is good that they are open, as from what I can remember the DVDs that they sell were around £4 to £5 cheaper than say in HMV or Virgin.
~~The Website~~ The design of the homepage is quite standard for this type of website, in the top left corner is their logo and along the top is their options bar with the following options; About DVD, Find a Film, What’s New, Your Account, Help and About Us.
About DVD - This section basically explains what DVD is and why they think that it is the format of the future.
Find a Film - This is basically the detailed search of the website. In this part you can search for a film with a particular actor, director, title or just a general search. This can be categorised into particular genres, decades and certificates.
What’s New - This section is a section, which shows you all of the latest deals, which DVD Plus is offering, there are some very, very good deals in this section with DVDs from £8.99.
Your Account - Well obviously this section allows you to log into your account, which you set up with DVD Plus. Once logged in you can view your shopping basket, view and change your account details, check the process of your order with order tracking and change your password.
Help – This section of the website is a very basic help system on how to use the various parts of the website such as the search facility and how to browse through the films manually.
About Us - This section explains who DVD Plus is and where they are based. It also gives a little history of the company and a few useless facts.
The rest of the homepage is advertising the latest DVDs that they have to offer. There is a top ten list of the DVDs which have been selling the most, there is a list of the most recently released films and there are a selection of DVD covers on the homepage which if you click on them you get more detailed information about that particular DVD. You can also perform a limited search from the homepage on actor, director or title of film.
This website was not slow and the search results appeared very quickly, which is nice as you don't have to wait around for them to appear.
~~Content~~ The content as far as I can tell is kept well up to date, with the latest films being advertised on the homepage. When you look at the details for a particular DVD you get a lot of information about the DVD. This information includes (but not always) a picture of the DVD, stars of the film, the director, the rating, the length, the price, the release date, the availability, a summary of the film (the basic story), the specification of the DVD (things such as disc format, aspect ratio, sound subtitles and extra features) and finally there may be a review of the film. Along with this information DVD Plus gives the film its own rating of one to five stars.
~~Ordering & Delivery~~ Like most online shopping these days you have to register with DVD Plus and give details such as name, address, e-mail (used for user name), password, credit card details etc… These are all safe and secure and can be updated. The delivery is free to customers within the UK, which is very good as it makes the DVDs on this website extremely good value for money. The delivery is also very prompt, which is very good as you don’t have to wait very long for delivery.
~~My Thoughts~~ This is one of the best and cheapest DVD websites that I have found and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for cheaper DVDs. DVD Plus says that they can offer 15% of the RRP of all DVDs and 20% off of the top 20 DVDs.
Happy Shopping :-)
